Patek Philippe

I have agonised for months over the next Patek I wish to add to my collection. The 5270 in white gold is standing out for me (although the rose gold is beautiful too). At this level, one needs to consider its investment potential. The 001 released in 2011...

I agree 100%. I have always wondered why the In house movements of Patek are not valued more. I went through the same thought process when choosing the 5170, for the In house movement, over the 5070 with the Lemania based movement. You articulated exactly... 

The 5270 is very weak on resale. I think the in-house movement is a big improvement, but the dial lacks the snap of the earlier models. I also think this segment of the watch market has been very hard-hit by the retraction of the watch industry worldwide.... 

The 001 was the very first in-house Patek perpetual calendar chronograph. It has a more minimalist dial than the later versions, which some of us prefer. I think it will be favored in the long run, but I'm biased, having chosen it. Park ...  

I agree with you, the 001 is special in that it's the first in-house movement, personally I see that as a big step for Patek coupled with the introduction of their seal. The 018 on the other hand is rarer and is considered the most evolved of the three. T...

Examples that come to mind are: 5070 vs. 5170; 5970 vs. 5270 and Zenith automatic Daytona vs. Rolex movement. Maybe someday this viewpoint will flip and more people will appreciate the superior in house movement watches mentioned. Anyway, IMHO 5270 is an ...
