The 2499 is a legend that has taken decades to reach its status. It was also a rare beast and appealed to most collectors. In my opinion the perpetual chronographs are the most aesthetically pleasing and exciting complications Patek makes. Comparing the 5970 and 5270 is a 21st century and somewhat fair comparison. The 2499 is the equivalent of a Mercedes Gullwing, its purely emotional. Anyway this post was meant to compare the 5270 001, 013 and 018.

The 5270 is very weak on resale. I think the in-house movement is a big improvement, but the dial lacks the snap of the earlier models. I also think this segment of the watch market has been very hard-hit by the retraction of the watch industry worldwide....

It is interesting that sometimes the non-inhouse movement watches are more coveted, even though the in house movement is widely regarded as superior.
