in-house vs modified movement
I respect Patek for spending a lot of R&D resources to produce their in-house chrono movement and it is a fabulous movement indeed. However there seems to be more at play than just the movement itself when talking about people's preference for a watch as dial layout, case size and case design are also important factors. Then there is also the scarcity factor. Who would have thought that a once unpopular watch like the Patek 5020 would become a collector's piece many years later? I agree that the 5270 is an amazing watch and it will rightfully take its place in the long history of great PP perpetual calendar chronos. However its legacy is still to be determined as it is a current production watch.

Not right now
The 5270 is very weak on resale. I think the in-house movement is a big improvement, but the dial lacks the snap of the earlier models. I also think this segment of the watch market has been very hard-hit by the retraction of the watch industry worldwide....

It is interesting that sometimes the non-inhouse movement watches are more coveted, even though the in house movement is widely regarded as superior.
Examples that come to mind are: 5070 vs. 5170; 5970 vs. 5270 and Zenith automatic Daytona vs. Rolex movement. Maybe someday this viewpoint will flip and more people will appreciate the superior in house movement watches mentioned. Anyway, IMHO 5270 is an ...
