Thanks

Thanks for your feedback. I am close to pulling the trigger on this watch; love the thinness of the 240. I do plan to wear this as a daily watch; and hoping I get some more feedbacks from users from similar watches such as 5140 or 3940 who are using it daily. You mentioned some people complained it does not get enough charge, will look into that.

5940G-001 daily wear? Comments about the 240Q movement?

 By: Zaki Rizvi : June 5th, 2020-09:59
I am considering to acquire a 5940G (Perpetual Calendar), however I am worried about the size 37mm x 44.8mm (cushion shaped). I have a 17 centimeter circumference wrist. Does anyone have a somewhat similar wrist size with a photo of this watch on their wr...

You're asking for opinions...

 By: patrick_y : June 5th, 2020-10:15
Quoting you, "17" wrist" could be interpreted in many ways, in the USA, 17" is interpreted as 17 inches (which would be an unusually large wrist). There are some countries that don't use centimeters nor inches. I suggest you should write how many centimet...

Thanks for clarifying

Hi Patrick, my wrist is about 17cm (not inches). Thanks for clarifying . Yes would like to know mainly the reliability of a QP for daily use. This would be my first Perpetual calendar and as a big investment for me wanted some opinions. Thanks

...my wrist is about 18.3cm, so a bit bigger. I have been close to pulling the trigger on this one many times as I love cushion-shaped cases and this may be one of the last times to get a PC with the aging (yet fantastic) 240 movement. It is very flat con...

Agreed! Why would you buy a watch like this without trying it on?

 By: patrick_y : June 5th, 2020-11:21
It's difficult to try it on now during COVID 19 and these watches are discontinued, so it may not be easy to obtain one to try. But try it on. And consider a 5140 (round case, same movement).

Yes, the same movement...

 By: mdg : June 5th, 2020-11:43
...but because of the case shape a totally different watch. I love the 3940 but the 5140 never did much for me. And speaking of discontinued, I've seen some new versions that have been gathering dust at my AD for a while now...so maybe a good time to buy?...

240Q Movement thoughts...

 By: patrick_y : June 5th, 2020-11:20
The 240Q movement is a great movement. It's a modular movement, but despite the fact that it's not an integrated movement (meaning the base movement and the perpetual calendar mechanism are very separate modules rather than fully integrated) it's quite th...

to the Forum! There are many knowledgeable people here and there is much to learn. My experience with the 240 movement is excellent. I wore a 3940 for over ten years as my daily watch and it served me perfectly. My feeling is that you would not be disappo...

Series 2 3940 - can I change the back or do I need to have a jeweler do it?

 By: Rmhechtmd : January 10th, 2021-07:21
Just got a late series 2 3940. Currently has solid back but came with the crystal back as well. Looks like it should just pop off using the tab but I don’t want to do anything that would damage the watch. Is switching backs as simple as it looks? Thanks f...

I owned this watch

 By: watch-er : June 5th, 2020-12:05
The hands are okay. I much prefer the Breguet style hands of the older models. There is a little ridge around the dial on the bezel which accumulates a lot of grime and dirt which is not easy to clean. If you want this type watch I would recommend the 504...

Great comment...

...especially the 5040s with the Breguet numerals. So, one less for me (I've been looking at the 5040 forever...) : )

Probably the most undervalued Patek, ever.

Let's not talk about it and keep it to ourselves 😂😂 Thomas

5040 is awesome

 By: Spartacus : January 12th, 2021-22:32
Personally I'm not a fan of the standard 5040, but the one with Breguet numerals and hands is sublime.

Here are a few shots of my watch on my wrist. It is certainly not too small and I have a medium to larger size wrist. It’s thin and elegant.

 By: edtonkin : June 5th, 2020-16:43
I think it’s one of Patek’s best keep secrets. Now that it is discontinued it may become more valuable but only buy it because you love it and not for any investment purpose. Good luck. (The watch is not set to the correct year and day as I grabbed it qui...

Looks great on your wrist!

Thanks for taking time and posting the pictures.

I’ve always loved this watch!

 By: BigAppleBill : June 5th, 2020-17:03
The case shape is rare and very appealing. And the thinness is quite impressive. I have a 7-inch wrist and when I’ve tried on this piece it looked absolutely smashing. I’m torn between the black dial in white gold and the white dial in rose gold. The only...

Have you considered 5320 in this case ...

I m playing for my team but 5320 is a beautifull watch ... ...

Great choice go for it

Have you consider Lange Perpetual Calendar

Indeed!

 By: Zaki Rizvi : June 6th, 2020-16:55
Yes I did consider the Langematik, however for some reason fell for classiness and unique form factor of this piece.

Hello Zaki and welcome here!

 By: sham1 : June 6th, 2020-01:25
I own a 5940G and my wrist is 16.3cm. The watch is actually a 37mm watch and the 44mm quoted size as you know includes the lugs. I have owned the watch for 2 years and have just accepted a deposit on it from a fellow purist. Please don't get me wrong - it...

Thanks :) [nt]

Thanks Patrick for your endorsement!

 By: sham1 : June 6th, 2020-18:49
I have barely worn my 5940G. I am not sure why but it does get less wrist time than all my other watches. And you are right - he is one lucky purist but I know him well

Thanks for sharing the pic.

Watch looks nice on you. Which dream piece are you getting ?

The 5959P

 By: sham1 : June 6th, 2020-18:52
It is a long shot but I am selling four to five watches to achieve the dream ...

5959P is a fantastic piece, congratulations in advance!

 By: DOCSF : June 6th, 2020-19:32
If you are getting the one which we briefly discussed in an earlier thread I think you are getting a fantastic deal.

That's the plan!

 By: sham1 : June 6th, 2020-19:34
I will know soon if a deal can be struck! Thank you for the encouragement.

240Q is a workhorse

 By: Mike-On-A-Bike : June 6th, 2020-22:04
I think there is another thread here re 5940, although a bit old. www.watchprosite.com I have a 3940, and the 240Q movement is a workhorse and very reliable. Not to mention it’s an absolute beauty, and I find some new detail every time I check wit...

It is indeed your old post

But no longer your watch it seems? 😁

You are right on both counts! :-)

 By: sham1 : June 9th, 2020-16:45
A very elegant watch especially with the raised Breguet numerals but I have noticed one thing. Perpetual calendars like the 3940,5140 and 5940 are not so legible when wearing them. Yes one can tell the time at first glance but it is more challenging to vi...

A warm welcome to the forum ! If you like the cushon shape, then you should consider it seriously !

 By: GLau : June 7th, 2020-07:42
Although cushion shape is not as popular as the traditional round cases, this selection is a very personal choice. The movement is definitely very good and THIN ! Let us know your decision and look forward to your wrist shots !

Wondearful slim watch thats under appreciated...I would

Consider

Hi, Zaki, I think 5940G is a winner. It combines the elements of ultra thin perpetual calendar, classical leaf shaped hands and applied Breguet numerals. The caliber 240Q is one of the best ever built fine watch movement.

 By: joenghenry : January 11th, 2021-02:56
Unless you don't like the cushion shape case, you should go for it. It wears perfectly on my 7inch wrist, hence should fit your 6.6 inch wrist too. Besides, just like the famous "TV" shaped Patek PCC, reference 5020 reference, It may not be a sought after...
