240Q Movement thoughts...
Jun 05, 2020,11:20 AM
The 240Q movement is a great movement. It's a modular movement, but despite the fact that it's not an integrated movement (meaning the base movement and the perpetual calendar mechanism are very separate modules rather than fully integrated) it's quite thin. This thin movement allows for a relatively complex watch to be housed in reasonable dimensions.
The biggest caveat to the 240Q movement is the winding rotor system. A lot of users with any 240 case movement (not just the perpetual calendar version) have commented that the watch is not very efficient when it comes to being wound by the automatic winding mechanism. Thus, many people experience that the watch doesn't build its power reserve fully after 8 hours of wear.
The perpetual calendar mechanism itself is mostly reliable. Be careful when setting it and to follow the instructions very precisely or else you can damage the system. Avoid making any changes to the watch between 9PM and 3AM as the calendar system is in action. The calendar action system is very slow and it is not instantaneous, which means when the calendar system is switching you may get an incorrect reading; for instance, it may read Saturday when it's still 11PM on Friday (just a hypothetical example).

5940G-001 daily wear? Comments about the 240Q movement?
By: Zaki Rizvi : June 5th, 2020-09:59
I am considering to acquire a 5940G (Perpetual Calendar), however I am worried about the size 37mm x 44.8mm (cushion shaped). I have a 17 centimeter circumference wrist. Does anyone have a somewhat similar wrist size with a photo of this watch on their wr...
You're asking for opinions...

Quoting you, "17" wrist" could be interpreted in many ways, in the USA, 17" is interpreted as 17 inches (which would be an unusually large wrist). There are some countries that don't use centimeters nor inches. I suggest you should write how many centimet...
Thanks for clarifying

Hi Patrick, my wrist is about 17cm (not inches). Thanks for clarifying . Yes would like to know mainly the reliability of a QP for daily use. This would be my first Perpetual calendar and as a big investment for me wanted some opinions. Thanks

...my wrist is about 18.3cm, so a bit bigger. I have been close to pulling the trigger on this one many times as I love cushion-shaped cases and this may be one of the last times to get a PC with the aging (yet fantastic) 240 movement. It is very flat con...
Yes, the same movement...

...but because of the case shape a totally different watch. I love the 3940 but the 5140 never did much for me. And speaking of discontinued, I've seen some new versions that have been gathering dust at my AD for a while now...so maybe a good time to buy?...

Thanks for your feedback. I am close to pulling the trigger on this watch; love the thinness of the 240. I do plan to wear this as a daily watch; and hoping I get some more feedbacks from users from similar watches such as 5140 or 3940 who are using it da...

to the Forum! There are many knowledgeable people here and there is much to learn. My experience with the 240 movement is excellent. I wore a 3940 for over ten years as my daily watch and it served me perfectly. My feeling is that you would not be disappo...

The hands are okay. I much prefer the Breguet style hands of the older models. There is a little ridge around the dial on the bezel which accumulates a lot of grime and dirt which is not easy to clean. If you want this type watch I would recommend the 504...

...especially the 5040s with the Breguet numerals. So, one less for me (I've been looking at the 5040 forever...) : )
5040 is awesome

Personally I'm not a fan of the standard 5040, but the one with Breguet numerals and hands is sublime.
I’ve always loved this watch!

The case shape is rare and very appealing. And the thinness is quite impressive. I have a 7-inch wrist and when I’ve tried on this piece it looked absolutely smashing. I’m torn between the black dial in white gold and the white dial in rose gold. The only...

Yes I did consider the Langematik, however for some reason fell for classiness and unique form factor of this piece.
Hello Zaki and welcome here!

I own a 5940G and my wrist is 16.3cm. The watch is actually a 37mm watch and the 44mm quoted size as you know includes the lugs. I have owned the watch for 2 years and have just accepted a deposit on it from a fellow purist. Please don't get me wrong - it...
Thanks Patrick for your endorsement!

I have barely worn my 5940G. I am not sure why but it does get less wrist time than all my other watches. And you are right - he is one lucky purist but I know him well

240Q is a workhorse

I think there is another thread here re 5940, although a bit old. www.watchprosite.com I have a 3940, and the 240Q movement is a workhorse and very reliable. Not to mention it’s an absolute beauty, and I find some new detail every time I check wit...
You are right on both counts! :-)

A very elegant watch especially with the raised Breguet numerals but I have noticed one thing. Perpetual calendars like the 3940,5140 and 5940 are not so legible when wearing them. Yes one can tell the time at first glance but it is more challenging to vi...

I don’t own this watch but below is a photo on my wrist which is c.17cm when I tried it on some time ago. I remember liking the size a lot!
