Okay, two different watches even they look
the same.
Nautilus 3712 is bult according to the original design of Mr. Gerald Genta. The case is made from two parts and the shoulders are used to fix the parts together. At the same time 5712 is having a "conventional" case built from three parts. This means that you will get the access to the movement by opening the back of the case. With 3712 you must open the watch from the shoulders. According to my engineer friend, the construction of 3712 is much more expensive and difficult to produce.
Because of the case construction, the crowns are different. The new model 5712 is having a screw-down crown while 3712 is having a push-down crown just like the original 3700. Both watches are water proof to 60 meters.
The shape of the shoulders is different and you will notice the differences comparing the watches side-by-side.
Also there are many differences of the dial and hands. The most remarkable is that 3712 is having a small hour marker at 7 o'clock.
The movement is just the same in both watches.
I found a new and sealed 3712 last year. The price of the watch was around 10k more than the price of 5712. However, I do not regret the lost money. For me 3712 is the first and original complicated Nautilus with a case built according to the original idea of Mr. Genta. At the same time 5712 is a fantastic watch but it only looks like 3712 while the case construction is very different.
But perhaps I'm just trying to justify my own purchase - which I do not regret.
Best, Kari
