Patek Philippe

Interesting discussion and

value for money is indeed important but I would not say that a Tudor is a Rolex. The new BlackBay is nice in its own category and I have considered buying one but in my opinion it is not as nice as a Submariner, simply look at the case design; one is chunky the other is light and better according to my taste.
In this high end category, it is about design and execution and I have seen some of the Montblanc perpetual calendars and I will not buy one because it is cheaper, I think you can spot right away the difference. Buying a watch is an emotional process and Patek offer designs that speak to me, and like you I think it takes time to understand these designs.
I think we will steady prices until this crisis resolves, if you have watched the Patek’s videos released at the time of Baselworld; Thierry Stern is actually saying that last year was OK for Patek and that there is a crisis but the industry cannot carry on growing like it was without contractions and that they will be OK; I think the Stern family knows how to survive and strive in this industry. In another article to a local newspaper in Switzerland, Thierry Stern discussed further the matter of cheap versions of some iconic complications like the tourbillion and skeleton watches which can only be lowered in price by decreasing the input of manual labour and often results in something that is not really nice, and kills the market. Simply the opposite of what they trying to do which is to preserve craftsmanship.
Patek will be OK. Although we may have been disappointed in some new models that differed from what we hoped, they still surprise us in a really positive way. I was disappointed by the new worldtimer and the new perpetual calendars but hey I love the worldtime chronograph. Only Patek manages to keep this steady level of new products year after years.
Cheers.
