Great introduction to a great reference
I completely agree with you, the 5930 brings some modernity to the collection; you can definitely see that modernization is Thierry Stern’s mission – and quite understandably if the company wants to remain.
Having seen the 5930 live this week (sadly behind a glass window), I find it is quite the star of the show. The dial is well balanced and changes shade of blue with lighting but it is dark and I prefer it to the other blue colors used in the collection, which are to me paler like in the 5327G. Somehow the watch does feel sport-casual but also elegant, adjusting the shade of blue is a really clever way for Patek to bring elegance in a more sporty watch (5930) and conversely to bring some casual in a more dressier watch (5237).
I like the hands, similarly to the hands of the 5905 series, they work really well to deal with lume while keeping a more elegant tone. The case is really nice and not too thick – nothing like for the 5905s, which are too thick for my taste.
I like these two complications together: I am actually someone that travels with a chronograph simply because I use this complication the most when I am travelling as I always time my travels around a city that I am not familiar with; like how long it will take from the hotel to this other place so I can plan ahead.
The movement is another strong point of this reference and I was amazed about the dial now being part of the movement: Kudos to Patek for bringing new references at such a high level; any other manufacturer will just have made it thick without trying.
Now like most of us, I just have to wait until I can try it - and then I am sure that I will be in trouble, wanting it really badly
