Patek Philippe

I imagine your feeling Kari

We quite already discussed baout what could it be like and for a surprise, that's a surprise.

I agree with the size matter, it has grown a little from 37 to 39/40mm already. But this is not just because wrist sizes have increased.

However, even if it is confirmed to be a good offer for members we read on the forum (very happy with the 42mm of the 5905 for instance), there is room for a little more. Thus, a wider watch in the collection is ok for me. But here we are talking about a limited release, an anniversary edition. This is not the same.

Well still have the 5711 in a regular size for people needing a smaller watch though. On the paper, everybody could have been happy, about the size...

But the issue is of course on the dial side. And there, the client panel isnarrowing very significantly and the activity on the reactions on the forum are not very positive. This is a reaction logical if we compare it to the smaller market share it reaches.

Did Patek have to make that offer for the 40th? Well, we are many to think they didn't but maybe Patek was thinking that project in a long term scheme: 175th, London exhibition, a voluntary small thing for the 20th anniversary of the AC complication and then the 40th. What's next? The 50th of course but maybe others.

In that context maybe getting 2 very "unusual" Patek for the 40th seem less extreme in terms of place in the brand's history. Maybe we keep focusing on what is close and ignore the "big picture".

Just a thought here.

I know you're a Patekman and love the brand. You are very disappointed as you were waiting for this event as a Nautilus supporter and collector and that it doesn't meet your tastes and expectations.

But you have a very nice colelction and I think that Patek makes ones of the most appealing traditional classical pieces in this field: finishing, technical evolutions in a very very conservative sector, aethetics, size and volumes of the cases, there more difficult shapes to craft etc...

What we found beautiful and tastefull certainly haven't changed because of 2 new limited watches unveiled in September 2016 that don't meet our taste education, far from that and I'm sure you agree.

I understand your frustration and disappointment and I think that many of our members will forget this version in several months from now.

I remember many watches from previous era which would have caused the same comments as today. But we forget them and only remember the best ones.

Fads come as cycles over and over: gold colors, shapes, diamond, 2 tones watches, straps vs bracelets, mesh bracelets etc..

To conclude I think this is a good try, even if not at all something for me. I would take aside the 40th marking on the dial I wish we don't see anymore that way in the future. They will make mistake and they will make beauties. That's the normal life of a brand and I must say that Patek has done very well until then.

Thank you for the nice comments about my post kari and for expressing your honest opinion in a respectful way smile

Cheers, Mark
