Patek Philippe

I’d say that’s a slight hyperbole, but certainly for the past 5 years or so, I’ve had the impression that Patek...

…has been resting on their laurels quite a bit.
The push to increase production has been notable, even though they’re supposed to be cutting back on this year’s output (acknowledging the issue with QC), at the expense of reasonable turnaround times for service and repair work.
In general, the brand doesn’t have anything that really grabs me – the previous generation VCO and current RO do, and certainly AP isn’t finding a problem to meet demand for steel ROs and ROOs, as well as servicing them in a timely fashion.
I believe Thierry should embrace the demand for the 5711/5167, and satiate it.
He should also get a new robust caliber in it, which like the Rolex 3255, can deal with having a recommended first service interval of 10 years – that should ease the amount of pieces being sent in for service at years 3-5, and with a rigorous QC process in place, further reduce the number of errant pieces coming back.
That would provide a certain amount of breathing space, whilst finding and training new watchmakers.
