I think it makes sense. There’s a finite amount of pieces and do you allocate to someone who has purchases several watches or no watches. I don’t feel someone has a “right” to buy an aquanaut or nautilus or whatever — so long as there’s not some unlawful discrimination.
But it doesn’t strike me as all that much different to say buy 3 Patek’s to get a 5811 versus buy 3 diamond necklaces—from the customer perspective. Obviously Patek benefits from the former more than the latter so I can see why they don’t want their products bundled with other things. Ultimately the danger for the brand, either way, is the sales associate that says buy all these things — whether Pateks or diamonds — and then doesn’t deliver on the goal piece. But I always question why someone would put themselves in that situation anyway.
