Patek Philippe

Great post Gordon.

I absolutely hate the new world we all live in today for so many reasons. My beloved hobby of horology has all but been ruined by the new money supposed watch enthusiasts.
Those that know me know I speak my mind. As an old school collector who started collecting because of the absolute love of watches not how they can help me financially. Progression was a gradual slow process. We grew into our knowledge and watches in a natural way. We had to wait and save for the next watch and as our financial standing increased so did our ability to go up the ladder the next rung to the next level of watch. This made the AD’s job much easier as it was a gradual process. It took me 40 years to get to a place that a billionaires offspring who has never earned a dime or waited for anything can instantly get to. I’m not jealous of him or her I actually pity them. For me it’s been all about that journey of knowledge and striving for the next level something they will never experience.
I believe The letter is in good faith although I do think Patek have lost their way slightly. I changed AD about 3 years ago due to a fall out about integrity after a long relationship involving many 100’s of thousands spent. Patek did help me find another local AD who have turned out to be brilliant and so much better than the original and I have not had to start at the bottom again so they do take loyalty very seriously.
I do feel very differently today about the whole hobby and the invention of the internet and values have somewhat ruined my passion and hobby.
Hope this comes across as it is meant.
M.
