you may interpret some of the responses here as "snooty", but I hope you can understand why. Your stated purpose of wanting a Patek to "send a message" to others goes very much against the grain in this community of folks who simply love watches for their own sake.
For me, I own several Pateks and I actually take pleasure in the fact that nobody ever recognizes them for what they are. I have purposely avoided owning a Rolex, even though a couple have turned my head, because that is the watch a "rich guy" is expected to wear in my part of the world.
Finally, a philosophical point. Sending a message that you have "arrived" begs the question, "Arrived where?" Every "arrival" in this life is a mere rest stop on a grander journey. Let's not be fooled into failing to walk the right path by thinking we've arrived anywhere.
Sorry for the preaching, I always like to reflect a little at the end of the year!

I am an owner of a 5980/1a and I have to agree with Zorro on all points. The way you intend to wear the watch will likely scratch up the bezel alot.
