Officine Panerai

I think Panerai has lost

something along the way, which has resulted in feeling of fatigue in some. I first started look at them in 2000, but didn't buy one until about 2005. What was striking about them was their design. So unique. The only thing that prevented me buying one for some years was the size.

I, personally, think the problem they have is they have tried to turn the company in to something it is not, a high end manufacturer. And as they years have gone by and they have been implementing this policy, so they have lost some of the luster they had in the begin. I also think an additional contributory factor is, through the passage of time, people have got used to the Panerai design. It arguably seems less unique and special now, simply because it more common and has been around for some time now.

When you add the marketing hype, which Panerai seems to be obsessed with, it is not surprising that those that loved a little known Italian company that made unique looking watches are increasingly unhappy with what they see now.
