This truly splits opinion for me…
Am I happy to see Minerva on the dial? In principle yes. But at the same time as long as the separation from Montblanc is not more complete the question is what it will mean. Most Montblanc shops I have visited don’t even have staff that can differentiate between a handwound and automatic movement (I have only encountered two rare exceptions), so unless there is an effort there they will continue struggling.
The finishing on pictures appears as good as we have been used to and a great thing that they finally developed a new movement. For those about a bit longer - the Cal. 16.29 was supposed to be limited to 288 pieces across all editions. We’re probably at tens of times more in the meantime 😉
What really bugs me is the size, the clumsy looking proportions, the lack of the Minerva elegance of old. I am personally not a fan of fluted bezels but I know many are so that’s not what I would see as an issue and if you have it bezel operated it’s a reasonable design choice.
I would like to see a coherent picture of what is intended with the brand first before making up my mind. And will look for the odd Gnutti era or early Montblanc era Villeret classic in the meantime 😊
