Independents

HI CL,

I didn't measure mine before I sold it but as the watch is already within +/-2~3 secs deviation it will be very difficult to improve upon. My believe is the observatory tests were performed under clinical environment and will never measure up to the rigors of daily activities. A knock here and there, some sprinkle of magnetic dust and it will be out of specs. In other words can the Observatorie possibly be tweaked to perform in observatory tests? No question about it. Will it perform like so under daily usage, I highly question this belief as everyone has different wearing patterns and it would be impossible to cater for all possibilities.

I remember from some past correspondence and threads that the better way to make an accurate watch is to let the owner wear the watch, then bring it back to the watchmaker for tweaking. Then the owner will wear it again and bring it back for further observations and tweaking. Sort of like a bespoke suit with many fitting sessions so that it is truly customized for the owner. But this is never going to happen unless you buy a house next to Kari. smile Another thing to remember is if the gain or loss is consistent, this is good with the watchmaker(again under clinical environment).

I accept the fact that accuracy is as good as it gets with modern materials and technology and the chronometer is more of an romanticized indulgence. I still love them because of their simple and clear objective, unlike today's 'cocktails of complications' as Dufour once famously said. To do a simple thing well is very hard but if it is well executed it is always very beautiful.

PS by the way I have commissioned another watch from Kari that is based on the monochrome look of yours. It is simply the best looking of the bunch IMO.
