Horological Meandering

Interesting comments from all

There is much about Breguet that I love and a lot of this has to do with the use of traditional Breguet design cues and inspiration from historical pieces. The fluted, coin cases, Breguet hands, guilloched dials, enamel work, classical sizes, all resonate with me. At first I thought they were anachronistic, but now I love this and it creates a special niche for the brand, in my view. Whether that type of watch is currently in vogue may be a point for discussion, but I like the fact that they are so differentiated from their competition.

Now Breguet also have a few misses. Daos has mentioned the Marine line. While some of the simpler watches are nice and have an historical pedigree, others are just a mish mash of tourbillons and chronos for the sake of it. And when they try to pursue the fashion of larger sizes they often fail.

I like the fact that Breguet exist and are continuing historical traditions. Yes the company has some patchy historical low points, but they have an important place in the horological tapestry.
