Horological Meandering

Hi…

If you no longer consider a professional buyer and seller of watches a collector (IMO a somewhat dispassionate exercise of buy low sell high) then price alone for the most part is not a factor. Having removed price we are now into history, brand, personal taste, rarity…I’m sure there are more factors.

1. To me a collector is a love of the subject matter…in this case watches. For instance I am not a collector of watches….rathe I’d say I’m an Omega enthusiast that also loves all luxury watches. I bought my pieces new for practical purposes.

2. A (your) collection should reflect what turns you on about horology.

3. Now… the hard question…if you had UNLIMITED funds and access to unlimited grail what would your collection look like? Clearly I will never own certain watches. Even $ notwithstanding I work for myself at home and would probably only ever walk around my living room wearing a Speedy Moonshine. Somewhat existential huh? At the end of the day your possessions should make you happy…my father once said “beware your possessions because eventually THEY own YOU.” 😉
