Generally no date, subject to the following qualifications:
Feb 12, 2022,15:01 PM
1) A Rolex Sub, because it has been ingrained on my brain as what a sporty watch should be, only looks “right” to me with a date and cyclops. It has never looked unbalanced, which other watches doing the same always do, and I’ve never once thought of buying a no date Sub. That’s the power of marketing and constant exposure for decades.
2) If the date is central to the dial, and a prominent feature of the watch, then I’m onboard. Datograph, Saxonia with the big date, the Nomos posted above, Journe’s Ratrapante, are all examples of this.
3) Date display on subdials, which are most always centered, are also good for me.
We are not talking of annual calendars or perpetuals, that’s a different discussion.
