I’m sad that Kari stole all the UJ elements and arguably dumbed down UJ.
I see it as an overpriced Breguet, but its success it’s to be seen, since I believe the usual web influencers will push it until enough deep pocket “me too collectors” buy it…
I think they are nice, but in the $20K price range.

The thing is Kari Stole UJ's original aesethic
took the lugs, hands , engine turned dials etc... I always though the new UJ would be a cheaper version of a Kari. But it's the same price and the finishing is soulless. Something is lacking and the case is just horrendous
so tell me why make a UJ?
Its the same thing with a different name? Just seems like a cash grab. Why couldn't he have made it under his own name. It's just a ploy to increase production without diluting the market
The guy who bought the brand, Rosenfield Sr, is a huge Voutilainen collector so he brought Kari on board to lead it.
This is more Rosenfield’s vision than Kari’s, as I understand, and I know Rosenfield isn’t in it for just the money.

Why bother to roll out new watches under the banner. The company went under. Kari should have just used the facilities to help in his own production. Why create competition. UJ was known as the poor man's Voutilainen. LOL
Hype in any form is still hype. Whatever your opinion of this new release, a critical factor is the price point, UJ watches have always been on the upper end of the scale
but in the past they have been worth it due to class, design, exclusivity, history and Derek Pratt. Mitch

The lugs are too stubby and don't gel with the rest of the design. The watches except for the time-only are way too thick and ridiculous. The overall design is OK but nothing very special. The movement finish is good and the dials nive, but the price thes...
Mmm. None of the watches available from these manufacturers under 50k offer nearly the same finishing as a Ferrier micro-rotor, which I feel is where the real high horology finish category starts.
But happy to be educated if there’s some hidden gem I haven’t discovered yet!

Prices set aside, I haven't been utterly disappointed at all.
I even think the UJ-1 is a major release and would buy it if I could afford it. But then, I might not be a "real collector" ;-) As for this silly "advertorial" or whatever it is, it's just silly, of course. Best, Emmanuel

I really like the new UJ releases! they aren't the same as the last gen of UJ watches but then again, no one bought those, it would be crazy to relaunch the brand with a proven commercially unsuccessful design
I'm not a customer at these prices and they are crazy expensive but not compared to KV, Biver, etc and the UJ1 is amazing, its not just an engineering first but the execution is beautiful.
What do you mean, when you say "last gen?"
Are you referring to the brand under Pratt and Baumberger or are you referring to the iteration under Petersen and Mojon?
These watches and the brand revival are certainly generating a lot of conversation.
It seems everyone can agree that the prices are outrageous. There is definitely more negative than positive opinions on case design, finishing and overall perceived quality of the watches. My big question is do people here think they will sell them? At 10...
The thing UJ did really well
was the detent escapement. The last generation of watches while very nice were really not up to the price. It is why the company stopped operations, and their watches traded at huge discounts on the secondary market. Covid obviously changed the landscape....
