Almost impossible question to answer...

Apr 21, 2021,23:17 PM

However, I think in good conscience I can say this piece.

John and Stephen’s extraordinary creation, the Tuscar Banu.
There is so much connection and significance to this watch for me.
They are two of my most fav. people on the planet and it would be an honor to wear just this for all time.
Cheers,
Tim

The One Watch Collection

 By: Cozmopak : April 20th, 2021-22:20
Every collector gets asked this question: what is your grail watch? Obviously, tastes change over time. And a collection usually implies more than one of anything. But if there was one watch that you could wear for the rest of your life, and only one, wha...

Tough question. I guess it all depends on your lifestyle and what you are doing in life.

 By: amanico : April 20th, 2021-22:28
I think, if I had to own only one watch, I would take something like that: Why? Because I travel on a regular basis, it would be great for casual moments, not totally out of place in formal moments... Moreover, it is reliable and accurate. All I need in l...

Hello Nico.

By: Costa (aka Connie) : April 22nd, 2021-17:52
I thought you would choose your beloved Patek platinum world time 5110P! Your 16 year companion. I hope to acquire mine soon. Have a good night CB

Yes that makes complete sense!

By: Costa (aka Connie) : April 22nd, 2021-19:19
It would be tough to take the WT into the sea for a swim. 😉

I predicted you'd say this

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-14:52
I dreamt Peter Selleck told me this.

LOL!!!

 By: amanico : August 16th, 2021-05:53

I am of the same mind!

 By: KCLQMULKU : August 13th, 2021-18:04
So for the single watch, based on this, it would have to be something beautiful, iconic, practical, comfortable, useful, rugged, hardy, and adaptable. Perhaps a black bezel submariner non-date, explorer 1, speedmaster pro, big pilot 43, snowflake, or AMVO...

First, let me congratulate you on your exquisite taste...

 By: mdg : April 20th, 2021-22:59
...that watch would probably be in my top 5. Here is another that I would be happy to wear every day without complaint... Hodinkee ...

This one, right here.

 By: blau : April 21st, 2021-03:28
I'll take this. Perfect, done, don't need anything else.

If I can only wear one watch for the rest of my life

 By: singingbee : April 20th, 2021-23:17
I want it to be versatile enough to wear for every situations that I will find myself in. And interesting enough that I won’t get bored of it. Therefore in my current small collection, I have to choose the Lange Odysseus. ...

I’ll realistically never be able to have a unique watch, but I guess if I did then it would be the one I’ll *never, ever* part with...and therefore my choice becomes obvious:

 By: FabR : April 20th, 2021-23:28
Had the above never been created...a couple of more “everyday “ pieces in my collection could be: ...or also this one below😄Cheers. ...

ROFL!

 By: amanico : April 20th, 2021-23:40

;-))

 By: FabR : April 20th, 2021-23:42

haha

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-14:52
I think the minimum he'd shrink down to is 3 pieces. I laughed when I saw Fab post 3 watches.

Rolex ref. 1018 for me.

 By: mkvc : April 20th, 2021-23:36
If it is to be the "only" watch, it has to work with everything from business suit to bathing suit, and that includes a bathing suit worn in the water.

Wow, rare reference! Bravo.

 By: amanico : April 20th, 2021-23:39
...

Great Choice!

 By: sham1 : April 20th, 2021-23:40
Mine would be either one of these. Simple watches as I am always weary of complex mechanisms and their long term reliability. The Voutilainen 28E (a possible incoming) The RW Smith Series 1 (arriving by May 2022) The Patek Philippe 7200R London Edition (t...

Thank you so much for saying so!

preserve every vital organ and somehow get one!

A JDN would be a true grail but so is a RWS or a VH classic Janvier

 By: Watchonthewrists : April 21st, 2021-00:30
So its difficult to say whats the,, one watch collection,, if there is any. But a watch i also dream about is this Akrivia AK03 ...

Correct its a Tourbillon Chiming Jump hour .

 By: Watchonthewrists : April 21st, 2021-23:32
What more does a collector needs 🤷🏻‍♂️. Its got everything i look for in a watch

Wow

 By: john c : April 21st, 2021-14:12
that Akrivia is amazing.

Smartly played. ;)

 By: amanico : April 21st, 2021-02:36

Great and difficult quesiton!

 By: Spencer Karrington : April 21st, 2021-03:28
So my ultimate grail is a bespoke watch that has flexible lugs so that it sits comfortable on the wrist and both sides of the watch can be worn (like Bovet Amadeo or the De bethune reversible) and each face has several functions. Some of the functions I w...

Love Daniel Roth. You pose quiet the question where the answer is forever changing.

 By: Jjmcd : April 21st, 2021-04:41
Complex: GD Tourbillon Blue. Doubly complex; GP 99760 Opera One. More complex; PD Grande Sonnerie. Simple: PD simplicity. In truth, settle for the FPJ Chronomtre Resonace. ...

This is hypothetical only

 By: Mr.Gatsby : April 21st, 2021-08:55
Because I can never have one watch only! 😂 I’m thinking very hard. Truth is I like to be active, and so I want a watch that sorta fits that description. I am tempted to say the Patek 5960 ref. Reason is that the chrono function is a sporty complication......

I kept thinking the same thing

 By: blau : April 21st, 2021-09:16
I owned a 5960a for a while, and the whole time I owned it, kept thinking that it deserved to be my only watch! 4 seasons, dresses up or down, looks good with everything, absolutely beautifully made, my two favorite complications (chronology and power res...

Absolutely mate...

 By: Mr.Gatsby : April 21st, 2021-09:49
Looks good with everything..even when you’re wearing nothing

!!!

 By: blau : April 21st, 2021-10:29
Are you saying that the above wrist shot.... is a nude?

Sorry to disappoint sir

 By: Mr.Gatsby : April 21st, 2021-10:42
But I had clothes on that day 😂

Curious —

 By: Chromatic Fugue : April 23rd, 2021-21:17
Why did you sell that 5960A — to fund the 5110?

Yep.

 By: blau : April 23rd, 2021-23:24
Actually I traded it in a 2-for-1. 5960a for 5110 AND Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir. Best trade I've ever made. I miss the 5960 but can't for a moment regret giving it up.

Nico ask me the same question tmrw

 By: Mr.Gatsby : April 21st, 2021-09:48
It might me a vintage Rolex ref. 1675 😜

Hehehe! :)))

 By: amanico : April 21st, 2021-09:55

grail watch is not the same as the only watch for the rest of your life

 By: penfriend : April 21st, 2021-08:56
If i could only have only one watch for the rest of my life it would have to be multi-functional (water-resistant, alarm, solar, chronograph, word time, GPS,...) - so a Casio G-Shock MRG would be my choice. But this is not a grail watch (even though I hav...

An Omega central . . .

Hmmmmmm, what a beauty!

I might have found mine in the AP 26400au forged carbon 👍

 By: oyster case : April 21st, 2021-10:51
Beyond the design, which is timeless and stunning, the practicality would clinch it. The piece wears unbelievably well, the weight, the balance, the feel, all top 🔝 notch. Versatile. Useful chronograph complication. Functional, Legible. Independent brand ...

Art and horology

Asaoka and Murakami ...

If only for the rest of life then...

 By: amg786w : April 21st, 2021-11:56
it would have to be something very visually interesting and perhaps functional at the same time. Was fortunate enough to try these on a few years back. So definately something from an indie such a De Bethune or MB&F. One day..... ...

That violin case JDN is a great choice!

 By: jleno : April 21st, 2021-16:32
For a single ultra-grail, a few other candidates come to mind. Roger Smith, Akrivia, and Kari would be all great. I also love some of the more obscure Journe pieces like the T10 and Mosaique. But my top choice at the moment would have to be the Krayon Any...

These are beautiful pieces

Hi Tim, I completely agree with you on this masterpiece.

 By: Cozmopak : April 22nd, 2021-09:36
I am sad to have started collecting seriously too late to have acquired one of these masterpieces. This would have been the first watch that I would have added to my collection

Beautiful choice

 By: jmpTT : April 23rd, 2021-02:22
Absolutely love the shaped JDN case, just so exquisite. I did have a chance to observe a round JDN in the metal years ago. It simply never occurred to me to ponder how rare the piece was. It was the personal journey of its acquisition that I recall the mo...

There's a lot out there to choose from, that's for sure! I think though, I already own mine.....

 By: DouglasM : April 26th, 2021-21:08
I think i'd have to have a watch that I can wear and not worry about scratching it. Sure, it's not terribly elegant with a suit, but on a strap, I think it's more low-key than the current spate of wearing steel bracelet sports/diver watches with suits. Wi...

Hi Douglas

What is plasma ceramic? I am quite confused, because some websites stated it is titanium coated with ceramic. Very nice piece btw.

Hi Cookies! Sorry for the late reply. Early on with the Bathyscaphe (2014?), Blancpain had those titanium cases with ceramic coating; which are a bit collectable now.

 By: DouglasM : August 6th, 2021-17:42
Later, in 2018 or so, they started making all ceramic cases (and bezels, crowns, etc.). First in black, later in 'gray plasma ceramic' which is a process that sister company Rado invented years ago, which is taking white ceramic and heating it to crazy te...

Thanks for the reply

 By: Cookies : August 6th, 2021-22:16
Yes, i thought the grey plasma ceramic was actually titanium. They got the grey in a realistic colour. Quite sad the titanium bathyscaphes are discontinued now.

Extreme Lab 2 for my ‘one watch collection’

 By: cfn : July 30th, 2021-17:55
My choice would be the EL2 because of… - its ruggedness - chronograph - gmt for travelling - easy strap change for warm holidays - uniqueness - you will most likely not meet another one - brutality - it will scare off any other watches I would probably mi...

Excellent question

Would have to be this one for me.
