Horological Meandering

Dear friends I'm very curious how many of you use as primary source of watch information and interaction with fellows collectors our forum opposed to other social media platforms like Facebook...Instagram...Twitter etc... After all do all of you have FB.....  

Our site has such a Community that I don't feel the need to go and see elsewhere. Moreover, we have discussions and topics which don't exist anywhere else. Our place is unique. Best, Nicolas

For me, Instagram is a mandatory media to share the passion for watches. Almost all my close friends have an account. I don't consider it as an "opponent' to PuristSPro but a perfect complement. I don't use the media for the same purpose. I don't use Inst...

Facebook...Instagram...Tweeter : 0%. Actually, I don't even have an account with any of them! WatchProSite is the only forum that I visit and where I am active in watches, and I don't miss any other one .

IG lacks depth most of the time but there is such a wide breadth of info & mostly opinions, that it is fun to check out periodically. PPro is for the depth and more mature thoughts.

I also keep thread/blog on WUS for last 5 years that's nicely visited. But this place seems very tight and I love how you all know each other. I would love to become permanent part of this community.

Please spend more time here post ...read ...learn..but most of all enjoy and suddenly you'll realize that since day 1 you were permanent part of this community! Cheers D

I do use some other forums for info but no interaction. And not using any social media platform at all for watch info/resource.

Watch information primarily from puristspro and occasionally other website. best

solely for horology related discussions, Aston Martin Owners Club mostly for transportation related topics (save for the occasional thread here) and Twitter exclusively as a news feed from a few corporate and individual accounts since news nowadays mostly... 

It may sound crazy to say showing your 50k watch is not showing off but it is completely normal as we have a community of watch collectors. We get the same joy and the same respect sharing our $500 or $1000 dollar vintage watch. As a community we share th... 

Occasionally check out Instagram. I don’t use any other social media. There is so much knowledge and information here and the app is also terrific!

PP at least once a day and very occasionally check other sites for specific info. Receive emails from Fratello etc and read articles if interesting. PP covers all enthusiasts,from elderly impoverished novices like me to expert collectors. As a forum it ha... 

PP often; Omega Forum occasionally for info & watch sales; FB often, but heavily automated to avoid spam and ‘chatter’ - I use it mainly for alt news feeds and comment, also new music & gigs; LinkedIn weekly & strictly for work. I think that’s enough time...

I use the internet for three main purposes - to retrieve my emails, to check the exchange rate and to access watchprosite. I am quite a stubborn dinosaur to put it mildly. Thank you for having this site or else my watch knowledge would be minimal.

I always used PPro as primary source with IG as secondary. I don’t use any other social media.

....i had an Instagram account, I closed it. I had a FB account, I closed it. For watches, information about watches and community, I have onle one forum. The BEST forum. That is not to say that IG etc doesn't have its place. But it is a subsidiary outlet... 

here my "watch news reading" style: 1) blogs (abtw, hondinkee) 2) IG (not proud but instagram is such a popular channel thas as you all know is becoming very important for all the brands too) 3) no FB, no TWITTER no SNAPCHAT (don't even have the account, ... 

TRF daily though it’s becoming tiresome. Hodinkee, Watchville a a Purist every other day. Tried 8past10 but got bored quickly

Instagram and PuristSPro, several times a day... maybe more time spent on instagram as am often sitting around airports and just want a quick flick through what is going on (not just watches!). They are totally different... they are not in competition wit...

Whereas PP is more a useful exchange of opinions and information, therefore a better look at the industry and collector’s community as a whole. ( But that’s just my opinion 🤔 )

......its not competing at all. Its just short-term titilation so to speak. Fun....for sure. But a different arena to WPS.

13 watch forums, around 15 watch blogs, FB, Insta. Every single day, few times a day. Plan is to filter that up a little, and focus on watch books.

I do tend to filter social media to three things only that I'm interested, so it makes the job a little easier to follow. 1. Watches 2. Girls 3. vintage Porsche. In that order

Timezone also, and some pics of watches from different FB pages that are shown on my wall randomly. No Instagram, no Tweeter, no .............. Best, Vte

Instagram is used probably once a day....it started out as a favor to my AD who just asked me to post my watches to generate interest, and as we agreed that I’ll never post about where I got them nor the prices, I didn’t mind. After a while I stopped, but...

A very interesting survey, Damjan, but beware sample bias in drawing any conclusions (as a fellow academic I know you already knew that...) Those who are likely to answer are already pre-disposed to mainly participating on PPro. Those 498,935 lurkers may ...

all fit different needs... sometimes IG and FB would have photos of new releases earlier..but I always come here for the in depth analysis and review or news... I follow tons of people on IG...but my account is private..I am not in it for the "likes" and ... 

I got my IG account shortly after I became a moderator. As MTF said partially to see what’s going on in the environment and what watch brands are excited about and also as a way to - in a small fashion - generate another way to point people towards Purist... 

in the end you would say you spend 50/50 time on IG and WPS? Cheers D

I do about three posts at Puristspro to every one at IG. And as said, only started IG as a support to our activities here. Of course I follow some of my other interests on IG, from cars, sailing, aviation, food, etc. But post watches, with a link to here ...

Don’t only post MB but all brands. As for refugees, it’s a difficult question. As with quite some of us - know it was like this in my case - people first lurk, before really getting going full speed and I do not have any tools to monitor what comes to her...

Here even if some says congrats - or just nice watch they are a real users. You can interact with them one on one. Look at their posts and writings and learn more. Sure on IG you can click on some and see there pictures but you get a different sense of th... 

Dear Bill, We all know there is monkey business going on many / most of the social media platforms. I disagree there are no honest accounts or worthy profiles to follow. I also feel the universe outside our platform can be complementary to that within. Ch...

I am not against other media, I just have no time for it. I had FB while a student but ended up no liking my use of it (spying on people rather than sharing). Sometimes, PPro is not the first on the news or novelties, but I prefer waiting for a nice artic... 

As for age span I agree...what I know we are not teenagers as strange as that sometimes might seem My wild guess...90% is between 25 and 65 Cheers D

IG on the hop and to keep superficially in touch. Sometimes IG leads to interesting contacts which inevitably leads to deeper exchanges via WhatsApp first and then mails. All these exchanges can quickly lead to an elaborate network, exchanges, activities ...
