... raising some points that are always creating a lively debate. So let me add my thoughts, although I am clearly not one of "the more knowledgeable".
Personally I believe that it will be hard to find an unbiased opinion. Besides finishing and decoration there are so many different aspects to consider when deciding what appears superior to yourself.
The overall design language, rarity, service, price point,... this list can go on and on.
Each manufacturer of fine timepieces that has managed to create watches that pass the test of time should receive respect. Breguet in particular has two identities that both qualify, the Type XX as an aviation watch with history, and the beautifully refined classic pieces which contain such a strong character.
So, if you love those watches, do not care about how others perceive ranking. If for instance Patek watches do not sing to me, they are low in my personal ranking, and that's all that matters to me.

and thank you for your thought provoking post. I think we can safely say that the holy trinity is a thing of the past and there is no way AP can now compete with Vacheron let alone Patek. In my opinion, Patek has no true rivals among the larger companies....

While I can't confirm this, the folks at the NYC Breguet Boutique tell me that Breguet will service any watch ever made by Breguet. I can say I wrote them about a not-too-old but out-of-production gold bracelet I wanted serviced and they were very patient...

First one would have to source an original Breguet pocket watch is not an easy task as there were so many imitations in the 19th century!
