Porsche 911 964. One of my dream cars.

Better dreamt than driven.

Why?

Because, as you say below, the 997 (2nd generation, without bore-scoring) is "the best compromise". Air-cooled 911s had all sorts of problems, not least rust.

But air cooled 911 had such a sound and character! ;)

And poor road-holding and pollution! And, now, silly prices. :-)

True that the prices are less interesting than those of the 997.

In all seriousness, the 997-2 Carrera 4 is the one to buy. For all the reasons that make the 911 a good car. Later models just started being over-spec'd and over-priced.

The 964 is a dream car. The best looking 911. Year 93-94 with the short gear stick and airbag is my favourite.

What I think, too. Even if the 997 would be the best compromise.

The 911 is a classic worthy to be called "icon".

I drove one, some years ago. There is much faster, now, for sure, and the behavior on the road is special, for sure, but it is such a car that I can live with that, with GREAT pleasure. ;)
