I have to weigh in on this one . . .

 

. . . as I have had more than ten p-cars. The 964 is fantastic for many reasons, not least of which that it is air-cooled. To suggest a water-cooled Porsche like the 997 is to suggest going to an entirely different category -- you might as well suggest a BMW 8 series! I would add, that looking for a "more powerful car" is all about a story you can tell -- in the real world, you can not really utilize more than 6/10 of these later cars unless you track them. The 964 will still give a great "sports car" experience -- I am a firm believer in the tried and true adage "better to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow".


I would add that, as far as styling and "purist" concerns, the hard top on the 964 and 993 is the one to get! Top-down on these references is not a good look -- and stiffness/performance suffers.
