There was a stretch of time . . .
. . . during the late '80s to early '90s when I pushed myself to appreciate jazz. Sarah Vaughn (twice, and with Joe Williams both times), Lionel Hampton, Ahmad Jamal, Illinois Jacquet, Phil Upchurch, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, and many, many more.
Unfortunately, I couldn't quite bring myself around to enjoying it. Folk, some snippets of classical (love Delius!), blues, and the rock music of my misspent youth still do it for me. Strangely enough, I've come to appreciate c & w lately, or at least, the "vintage" stuff - Marty Robbins, Patsy Cline, Ray Price, Hank Williams.
Glad to see Dad's heirloom is getting a workout these days!
Cordially,
Art
