Week of the 2nd February - HEAVY METAL starts NOW!

 By: andrewluff : February 1st, 2018-23:14
Lets see all you heavy hitters guys! Cheers Andrew ...

Here my heavy metal

 By: brauner : February 2nd, 2018-00:31
big and bold Richard Mille RM028 all black. ...

Wow the RM28!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-02:58
I have never seen the all black version, but did consider buying one of the special editions a while back... I was just not sure how it would wear on a daily basis as is quite thick? How do you find it? Cheers Andrew

It is 47 x 14,6 mm so it is a real big watch.

 By: brauner : February 2nd, 2018-23:09
Although it is big it is not as heavy as it seems to be because the case is made of titanium. The bottom of the watch is curved. All in all it sits very well on the wrist. I would say a perfect summer or holiday watch. The thickness speaks against wearing...

The perfect watch for a metalhead

 By: Alkiro1 : February 2nd, 2018-04:26
Best wishes Alkiro

Could be. [nt]

 By: brauner : February 2nd, 2018-23:12

Thanks [nt]

 By: brauner : February 2nd, 2018-23:12

Ok, ok... So...

 By: amanico : February 2nd, 2018-00:33
For the metal, the Amvox II Platinum, the Reverso Septantième Platinum, and the Duometre à Chronographe in white gold are heavy metal, for sure. For the rest, the link with heavy metal is obvious, too. Best, Nicolas ...

Thanks, CC. [nt]

 By: amanico : February 2nd, 2018-12:12

I knew you would come out with the Heavy Hitters Nico!!!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-03:01
That mil spec in the first picture was the one in my mind at the start... BUT I must admit my favourite is the 3rd picture as the flames look real and what a hot piece! Enough heavy pieces there to form a decent band! Cheers Andrew

Cool Maiden shot

 By: Alkiro1 : February 2nd, 2018-04:28
It works very well with the Blancpain Best wishes Alkiro

+1

 By: Subexplorer : February 2nd, 2018-04:46
... a breathtaking parade of wonderful timepieces!! Hagwe Nicolas! Un fuerte abrazo, Abel.

Gracias, amigo mio. [nt]

MilSpec and Iron Maiden? Serious heavy metal, there!

Wonderful collection

 By: Brego : February 2nd, 2018-11:41
That Duometre a Chronographe on a NATO is absolutely spectacular.

Thanks, Michael. [nt]

 By: amanico : February 3rd, 2018-01:56

While all are heavy hitters...

 By: KMII : February 4th, 2018-00:36
The Duometre picture is my absolute favourite!

Vacheron Constantin Triple Date moon phase in platinum. The heaviest metal in my collection...

 By: Alkiro1 : February 2nd, 2018-00:56
...but the biggest, thickest, heaviest and boldest watch I own is without doubt my Lange Zeitwerk. HAGWE Best wishes Alkiro ...

Thank you

Best wishes Alkiro

A classic beauty 😉 Thank you dear CC

 By: Alkiro1 : February 2nd, 2018-04:29
Best wishes Alkiro

It surprised me that the VC with its classic case as slim lugs is more than the mighty Zeitwerk!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-03:06
as that is one big gorgeous chunk of gold! Of all Langes, the Zeitwerk is my favourite... maybe the striking one for me... but wouldn't say no to any of them!!! Cheers Andrew

I keep thinking about it...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-04:56
I like the Zeitwerk striking time... a little bit bigger case and the hammers are really beautiful on the dial. Some might say it goes against the purist vision for the dial of the Zeitwerk. I like the Luminous too... but the price seems to have gone insa...

You have no honey gold Zeitwerk for the regular version like mine (mine is in pink gold). You have to buy the Decimal Strike which is the only Zeitwerk version (at least to my knowledge) made in honey gold (LE of 100 pieces)

 By: Alkiro1 : February 2nd, 2018-05:08
If I had to choose another one today, I think I’ll buy the Handwerkskunst which is truly amazing. But the Luminous is super cool too. At least, you have a lot of iterations with this Zeitwerk and I’m sure you’ll find one for you (independently of the pric...

I am not a gold kind of a guy...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-08:29
I just remember trying on some honey gold pieces of theirs previously and thinking it was a nice colour... hence wondering if this was yours. I am more white gold/platinum so as to 'blend' in Ah yes... the Handwankerskunts... I love that piece... had tota...

My heavy metal

 By: crown comfort : February 2nd, 2018-01:03
the GP 1966 Chronograph in Pink Gold. With its 42mm quite a heavy hitter in many aspects. CC ...

Gorgeous photo!!! [nt]

 By: amanico : February 2nd, 2018-01:11

I remember trying this one on once at a GTG in a white metal...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-03:09
but I can't remember if white gold or plat and remember it is quite a heavyweight. Gorgeous watch and especially in the rose gold version as the numbers and hands jump straight from the dial. For 42mm it sits really well on your wrist. Cheers Andrew

Thanks Andrew

 By: crown comfort : February 3rd, 2018-01:12
white metal, i.e. White Gold would have been the 40mm version without date. They are all really great offers.

Thanks Ronald! [nt]

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-03:14
to make sure you walk in a straight line? I have seen a couple of these lately posted on Instagram and love the colour of the dial with arabic(??) script? This was an open edition done by Rolex or for a retailer? I find it very attractive indeed. Cheers A...

Love a heavy metal watch: 1) Omega Speedmaster DSOTM "vintage" over an 1800's iron bar (that's heavy, over 40 kilos!). 2) Aquatimer 2000 3) Another of the Aquatimer 4) Aquatimer 2000 on the wrist. Not that heavy but very bold. 5) "Blomman" shot homage A g...

Nice ones Nilo!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-03:21
Why don't IWC still make Aquatimers with clear dials like this any longer... all the last ones seem to be cluttered rather than what it was intended for! I will always have a soft spot for the Dark Side... I think it was the strap and cream lume. You carr...

The Aquatimer 2000 (IW358001) is still on the IWC catalog...

 By: nilomis : February 2nd, 2018-04:45
The only Aquatimer that I consider "cluttered", for a reason, is the Perpetual Calendar (go figure why a diver watch requires a perpetual calendar!). Cheers, Nilo

The Perpetual was the one I was thinking of...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-05:03
but also all the chrono editions too I remember seeing over the last few years which have a busy dial (for a dive watch). HOWEVER... I saw this on their website... AQUATIMER AUTOMATIC EDITION “COLLECTORS FORUM WATCH”.... I like that! It doesnt say much on...

I don't consider those chronographs "cluttered"...

 By: nilomis : February 2nd, 2018-05:46
Here's the ones that I own: 1) Aquatimer Chronograph "Sharks" 2) Aquatimer Chronograph "Bronze" Cheers, Nilo ...

They look better in your pics for sure!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-11:23
I never saw the bronze ones before... but the collectors bronze one is waiting at the boutique for me to see next week I think just as a diver and using my watches really for diving... I like a clean and clear dial... of course you never use them underwat...

They are not heavy ...

 By: nilomis : February 2nd, 2018-04:42
Just amazing ones. Since you want to see it, here's the MMR Tivan. And the Omega De Ville Co Axial Central Tourbillion: Cheers, Nilo ...

I have tried on the Grande Date...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-05:16
it has a big presence on the wrist, not just in weight. That Duometre is just a pure beauty... I love the use of the gold hands against the dark dial (white gold or plat case??), pure magic. Cheers Andrew

Very nice indeed!

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-11:25
The same one Nico has I think. Cheers Andrew

 By: jml_watches : February 2nd, 2018-04:55
Hi All Looks like a lot of the heavy hitters are dive/sports watches. I'm no different - biggest & heaviest is my latest Seiko & my first dive watch. A couple of shots of mine under rigorous testing ;-) Cheers JML ...

Biggest and heaviest maybe but truly nice for sure

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-11:19
I really kept thinking of getting one of these Panerai... then when I see it think don't do it you will never wear it... but then I see another one at auction and get tempted again. Do you wear it often? Great duo... makes the IWC look small! Cheers Andre...

Hello dear Andrew! Yes it is realy big and its not a comfortable nor practical wrist watch in my opinion, unless...

 By: Subexplorer : February 2nd, 2018-11:54
... you are Arnold Schwarzenneger or Stallone! Lol! The Big Egiziano is an statement. A piece of collection for the true lover of Panerai. And the closest you can get to a great piece of their history. I bought it as that: for the love for the brand, know...

Thanks Abel!

 By: andrewluff : February 3rd, 2018-09:42
Maybe one day I will get one... as a paperweight and 'object' for my desk... I think I would be tempted to wear it out a few times too... maybe on dark evenings... It's heavy on the wrist or just the pure size? Have a great one too, Cheers Andrew Cheers A...

Thank you Andrew!! Though I wear it so little and without any viewer near me who surely would comment something about my big watch, I find so enjoyable to own it...

 By: Subexplorer : February 5th, 2018-05:10
... and gives me so much pleasure and feel happy to have it in my colection that I don´t care much about wearing it or not. I just love this piece of Panerai history! And this is all about a piece of collection: to enjoy it so much! It is not as heavy as ...

Making that IWC look small is quite a feat ;)

Ken... if that first one is too heavy for your wrist...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-11:13
do you want me to send you my address so I can look after it? Great pics... love the reverso, so much better on the white strap that the standard black you seem to see. Cheers Andrew

Wonderful pieces, Ken!

 By: KMII : February 4th, 2018-05:15
Your Reverso on this strap is simply sublime

This Reverso with the standard strap is too serious....

 By: Watchonthewrists : February 2nd, 2018-08:29

I have this for many years my friend . Its my last Rolex but i didnt wear it for two years now i think

 By: Watchonthewrists : February 2nd, 2018-08:32
It dosnt give me a smile on my face anymore 😬

Ah the Tattoo...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-11:16
I almost bought this watch when it came out... great design and had quite a few LW's. Love the detailing on the case and at the time there were very few engraved cases with modern designs like this. That Sea Dweller is certainly different... it is an afte...

Thanks i think i have owned almost all LW models now but this one is my fav of the brand .

 By: Watchonthewrists : February 2nd, 2018-13:31
Correct the Rolex is a aftermarket limited edition by a german dealer . Made a few series (blue , red and green) with a DLC coating .

Thanks ,that SLS black is also a Heavy piece of automotive imo .

 By: Watchonthewrists : February 3rd, 2018-01:25
unfortunately not mine 😔

Certainly do the job!

Heavier Heavier Heavier Really really much heavier ...

You get asymmetric arms...

 By: KMII : February 4th, 2018-05:17
With the last one as your daily wear Great pieces and shots!

Ok, the most heavy duty I have is this one: IWC Ingenieur ref. 1832 „Jumbo“. Believe me: heavy metal!

 By: HSTE : February 2nd, 2018-12:22
But little chance to win: 1) I WC=not popular here and 2) no heavy metal LP cover easily at hand right now. But very cool topic, thanks Andrew. Cheers, HSTE ...

The dial pattern of this one is very nice

Lots of love for IWC...

 By: andrewluff : February 2nd, 2018-13:46
and we have a special judge this week... and he likes a bit of lots of brands... including IWC... No need for a cover either.. its heavy weight week and the Ingenieur certainly ticks that box... well 2 in your case HTSE!!! I thought these cases were alway...

Check out one of the brands in Eric's picture...

 By: andrewluff : February 4th, 2018-15:21

. . . on my wrist, Andrew. Runs slightly fast observationally, might need to have it tamed a bit. But otherwise, a-ok. Even the hour hand issue has been satisfactorily resolved. Art

Wonderful, Art!

And knowing you, the heavy metal stuff comes as part of the persona - no need for album covers

Speaking of album covers . . .

 By: Dr No : February 4th, 2018-14:12
. . . Chris Isaak and his band signed this one on my behalf . . . . . . for my brother Al. Roy Orbison was in attendance that night at the Roxy; right after signing this cover, Chris took his leave and sauntered over to Roy's table. And yes, Roy was weari...

So cool!!! [nt]

. . . with my SWMBO at that time, and camera in hand. Stevens was on the other side of the restaurant with his wife and kids. Had he not been with his family, I might've had the courage to ask him for a photo, but I didn't want to disturb his privacy. All...

Ah, very cool :) [nt]

 By: pplater : February 3rd, 2018-02:38
In Australia, as in Texas, it’s always a competition. You’ve seen the film: So if we’re talking about 'heavy metal' watches? Heavy… Heavier… Most heavy… (watch not owned - photo credits public dot clix dot pt and horologyzone) SHUT THE GATE… Cheers, pplat...

Sadly, WOTW...

 By: pplater : February 3rd, 2018-03:08
WG not Pt. That's how the Sinn (tegimented steel) gets to be heavier! Cheers, pplater.

Why Sadly 🤔 WG is also stunning 👌🏻😘

 By: Watchonthewrists : February 3rd, 2018-04:38
The 103 is on of there best designs imho 🙏🏻🤗

I like your Urwerk a lot. Perfect for this thematic imho. What’s the watch in your last shot? Modern art?

 By: Alkiro1 : February 3rd, 2018-02:54
Funny to watch Crocodile Dundee again. One of my favourite movie when I was a kid. Best wishes Alkiro

Thanks Alkiro...

 By: pplater : February 3rd, 2018-03:09
Maybe we should leave the brand identity of the last watch as a quiz for readers? Suitable suggestions welcome! Cheers, pplater.

Good idea 😉

I am surprised the Sinn is more than the Urwerk?

 By: andrewluff : February 3rd, 2018-08:00
I have tried on these WG Urwerk and they always felt pretty hefty. What's the Sinn? Long time no hear pplater, where you been and keeping well I hope? Cheers Andrew

The Urwerk looks like a Transformer

I see some serious gold!!

 By: andrewluff : February 3rd, 2018-08:03
What a nice pair, I have a soft spot for gold PAM's but I wear them for a while then they go... until I get tempted again. The IWC is a beauty, is that a black or blue dial? Very nice and very elegant. Cheers Andrew

Thks Andrew.....

 By: S F : February 3rd, 2018-22:20
The IWC has a black dial. As for the PAM140, it is such an oddity - gold, carbon fibre dial, match stick markers. Cheers! SF

I didn't see the carbon dial!

 By: andrewluff : February 4th, 2018-01:46
Yes it is a strange combination... but works! I used to have the PAM197 and never really got used to the gold with their hobnail style dial... but think I could get used to the carbon one Cheers Andrew

This shot may be clearer. Cheers!

Heavy Metal watches....literally

Very interesting Melvyn

 By: andrewluff : February 3rd, 2018-08:07
What else is Tantalum used for as it's pretty rare in watches too (AP, Journe and a couple of others have used for small batches). Does it have a big commercial use to run out in such a short time. That Piaget is something else... great for a night out! C...

Electronics, Nuclear Reactors, Turbines

 By: MTF : February 3rd, 2018-13:09
Because of it's resistance to corrosion and high capacitance, its main use is electronic capicitors. Also for areas of engineering to resist corrosion like nuclear reactor cooling systems and high temperature turbines. The biocompatibility (non allergenic...

I never knew that Melvyn...

 By: andrewluff : February 4th, 2018-01:32
I only ever heard the word in relation to the watch industry! I thought they used gold for capacitors etc for their anti corrosion and the transmittance of electric through circuits? Cheers Andrew

Capacitance is different from Conductance

 By: MTF : February 4th, 2018-03:00
Gold has high conductance for electricity plus low corrosion makes for good contact material for electronic components. Tantalum is also corrosion resistant but it's capacitance properties for electrons make for reliable capacitors. Watch making was a flu...
