I searched for images of some heavy metal watches I had in the 2000s.
I used to have bigger wrists
Unfortunately, I could not find them but here is an actual HEAVY METAL.....tantalum.
Audemars Piguet Chronograph Tantalum and bling friend
Tantalum is a little less dense than gold but far tougher.
With refining treatment, it can be 800 - 1,200 Hardness Vickers (Ceramic is 1,400 HV)
Melting point of tantalum is over 3,000 ยฐC compared with gold at just over 1,000 ยฐC.
Corrosion resistant and 4 times harder than gold.
Tantalum ore is difficult to refine as the main impurity is niobium, another transition element.
Tantalum is not traded on any public commodities exchange, and tantalum prices are determined between individual buyers and sellers.
It is estimated that there are less than 50 years left of tantalum resources, based on extraction at current rates.
It's controversial as Rwanda has taken over from Australia and Brazil as main supplier.....there is such a thing as "blood tantalum" like "blood diamonds"......
Of course, if we are counting bling as a HEAVY watch, this Piaget Polo is a contender.....
Heavy Bling Piaget Polo
Finally, my Omega Railmaster XXL at 49mm diameter is definitely a HEAVY watch.
Here is the puny Audemars Piguet Royal Oak as a comparator......
Omega Railmaster XXL with puny Royal Oak for weaklings.
