Hello dear Count! Here my entry for the Theme of this edition of WS. As I told you before these two unexpected catches came just a few weeks ago.
Oct 16, 2021,01:59 AM
One of them I have already shared the previous week: a brand new Rolex GMT Pepsi Ceramic Bezel.
It is a watch I deeply wished to own and that has been haunting my soul since it was announced in 2018. I filled an order for one on a local AD since day one but I had abandoned any hope of getting one due to my reluctance to pay the high prices which it has reached in the present market and considering the current marketing policy of Rolex.
Unexpectedly during the first days of October I received a phone call from my friends at the local AD asking me if I already wanted one. Of course I said yes and the following day I rushed to the shop to get my coveted watch. And to round my luck they gave me the chance to choose between the two specimens they had received: Jubilee or Oyster bracelet!
I opted for the Jubilee as you can see in the pictures.
The other unexpected catch was the "most unexpected" one in all my collecting career and it happened last September. It was during a family event that I had the chance of chatting watches with a friend of my son in law. I had met this gentleman in a previous event and knew he dealt with watches but never had the chance of talking much about it.
This time was different... we were relaxed and I sat near him and begun chatting about our shared interests and then he was surprised to learn that I was fond of Speedmasters as he thought I only collected Rolex. So he said he had "an interesting Speedy" and offered me a steel reference from the 80's which didn´t interest me.
Then he said, "I have another Speedy which I´m taking to Europe to try to sell it next month". "May be you´ll like to see its picture" he said while he searched his Cell phone.
Then he handled me his phone and I viewed the pictures. And I thought my heart was going to stop!!. I couldn´t believe what I was viewing as I never thought ... I mean ... I never dreamed that I could find one in my own Country much less that it was going to be offered to me: an original Speedmaster reference 145.022-69 "Tribute to Astronauts" (the one used as model for the Tribute to Apollo 11 Moonshine of 2019)
Well ... to that conversation followed a several days dealing till we arrived to an arrangement that allowed me to take it home. I felt like I was touching the sky... or the Moon!
I´m sharing a few shots of both "unexpected" watches in my collection below.
Have a nice weekend my dear friend Moritz and all our friends here! Abel
