Are there vintage teas?
May 09, 2014,14:54 PM
Perhaps this is for a broader discussion on TimeOut, but is there a single tea crop each year and are there discernible vintage differences? Or perhaps growing conditions do not have such a dramatic effect as they do on grapes for wine? And does the age of the tea tree influence the final product, as old vines do?
Thanks for the additional information and pictures, Mike.
Tea sommeliers are becoming popular in some of our restaurants. I have tried a middling priced tea of around $30 per pot, but I was not sure I could appreciate the differences. I need to try some more. At least I can tell the difference between tea bags and brewed leaves. Favourites are Irish breakfast and Orange Pekoe, but within those groups there must be a lot of variation.
Please do a stand alone tea thread because I want to learn more.
Warm regards,
Andrew
