After putting my thinking cap on . . .

. . . a clear pattern emerged. A vintage collection would not be viable, as going that route requires time, education, and most importantly, reliable watchmakers and parts sources. No one coming in cold should attempt assembling a vintage-themed collection . . . it's just too risky.
So where would I start?
Here.
A modern cal 3861 hesalite Speedmaster on bracelet. The best of all worlds at reasonable cost, and suitable for most occasions. This would be #1.
A dress watch is also an essential, even if my idea of dressing up . . .
. . . comes down to wearing a rare t-shirt. Here, I would go with a Grand Seiko . . .
. . . just like Mitch's recent acquisition. Exquisite quality at relatively reasonable cost, and the rose gold / black dial arrangement works in every setting. #2.
A collection without an indie bypasses the essence of watchmaking. There's an indie for every taste; mine tends towards . . .
. . . Dornblüth. #3.
Finally, although acquiring a vintage on my own account bereft of experience and contacts would be inadvisable, fortunately Zenith has stepped into the void with their curated collection offered with manufacturer's warranty.
How can anyone go wrong . . .
. . . with a certified vintage A386? #4.
