A sad moment, this… 😢
Much has been written about the Captain over the past days and I suppose everyone can add a small piece of the story. He’s been a lifeblood of the forum for many years with interests raging wide when it came to watches, cars, travel, food and much more.
He was always stylish, which we often got to see on his pictures (included some below). And certainly someone who seemed to be able to pull off a fine hat 🎩

He also had a sense of humor, as his mince pie Rolex demonstrated…

Or some of his more playful watches 👍🏻

As Abel mentioned in his opening post, he has invested much care and effort to make the WS posters over many years. The shot below happened while he was making a poster for the December WS, ‘Driving Home for Christmas’ - he said it was an exercise in contortionism to get the angle right. Just goes to show how much dedication he devoted to us 🙏🏻

And that his passion for cars was similarly deep to that for watches. We have spent many a thread and private conversation discussing the merits of the various pieces of machinery and he was always a source of very considered advice.

He also got to get the Yaris GR at some point, which I was hoping to likewise add. Although I am not sure I would be able to match the maximum attack mode as seen in the shot below 😊👍🏻🏁

And finally I felt the post would not be complete without a picture of what was perhaps his defining watch - the Patek he wore on his wedding day (it might have been a pre-wedding present from his wife, if I recall correctly). The watch he spoke of most fondly and that clearly had the richest personal connection.
Unfortunately our long discussed lunch at Barrafina we will not have and a joint Hunza valley road trip likewise not. Just goes to show that delaying things too long always carries a risk. I am deeply sorry.
As for the WS entry this week, we did not both share a lot of watches in common but there are two that I would like to post.
First of all the VC1972 Prestige de la France, which he recently acquired and was one of the few other people I knew with one…

And the Habring2 Felix, of which he likewise had a specimen.

Finally, we both enjoyed our Doxa divers, even if his was a Sharkhunter (if memory serves) and mine a Searambler. Or more of a snow rambler in my case ❄️
Godspeed on your final journey, Captain 👨🏻✈️🙏🏻
