Variations on the dial and movement

Let's remember that the beloved 4178 was in production for decades, with quite a bit of variation in the case materials and even the dials.

There is no question that the Cornes de Vache is one of my favourite chronographs made today, but the sub-dial spacing of the 4178 is perhaps a bit more pleasing to the eye. Of course, these vintage chronograph dials were designed around third party Valjoux movements, with some earlier models using Martel movements.

Vacheron has the mothballed cal 3300 which may or may not provide a difference in sub-register spacing, in proportion to the movement's overall diameter. They should look to play a bit with the movements available to them, along with the subdial and case diameters. I have a feeling that the more beautiful neo-vintage Vacheron chronograph is yet to be released.
