Vacheron Constantin Cornes de Vache 1955 Chronographs. What do we have?

Jun 03, 2024,07:30 AM

In 2015, Vacheron issued the first 1955 Cornes de Vache Chronograph in platinum, to be followed in 2016 in rose gold:

Then, in 2017, in steel, for Hodinkee, in a LE of 36 pieces.

And in 2019, in steel, in regular production:

Today, the steel and the rose gold versions are available.

Don't you think it is time t get another version? In yellow gold, for example, and in a more original metal, like tantalum or titanium?

Best,

Nicolas

It's a very versatile design.

They could easily pull off any of your suggestions.... Still, when it comes to VC chronos, the Malte is my favorite ........

I imagine!

There is a unique piece Les Cabinotiers with salmon dial also

Ooh, a beauty!

 By: bruckner4 : June 3rd, 2024-13:14

I would love a CDV in salmon

 By: dte2 : June 3rd, 2024-14:49
Is Les Cabinotiers only for well-established clients?

It seems so.

 By: amanico : June 3rd, 2024-14:51

Cool looking.

What I specially like on the Hodinkee edition is the pulsometer scale

 By: Eric67 : June 3rd, 2024-08:30
I think it's more suited on this watch than the tachymeter A fantastic doctor's watch with the pulsometer šŸ˜„

Now youā€™re talking! When you say more affordable do you mean another brand all together or a metal selection making the VC more affordable?

The Hodinkee and gold version are nice as they have contrast. The steel version is almost impossible to read time in person

Looking forward to it!

Pt is my favorite

I find the color palette the most attractive compared to other models. It is a tiny watch, I think Ti would end up being too light, especially considering there is no rotor. Tantalum is an interesting thought!

Has VC ever used tantalum?

 By: Eric67 : June 3rd, 2024-08:45
Not sure šŸ¤”

Both tantalum and palladium

 By: Tick Talk : June 3rd, 2024-13:45
were offered in one watch, a LE Quai de lā€™Ile

Here is a post from an owner

our old THL friend Radek: www.watchprosite.com

I vote for Palladium!

 By: RayStantzPhD : June 3rd, 2024-09:07
That would be special enough (and more easy to machine than tantalum). Cheers, Alex

Lovely combo

Tantalum and blue pulsometer dial!!

Titanium case

 By: keks : June 3rd, 2024-10:23
and pulsometer glossy black dialā€¦ please!!!

Another cool combo!

 By: amanico : June 3rd, 2024-11:13

Very true

 By: MZHammer : July 1st, 2024-21:08
For that reason, I'd propose a Hodinkee-esq version in steel to balance cost and value. The Special dial would be more desirable than a custom metal (to me). As the standard Pink Gold is now $64K it runs away quite quickly with some custom dials.

Good idea!

 By: amanico : July 1st, 2024-21:12

Indeed!

Love this series

I need a Cornes de Vache by Vacheron Constantin one day. Such a beautiful and timeless design. I envy those who has one of these!

Limited production already

 By: Adilo : June 3rd, 2024-13:03
As I understood. What would be their current annual production in steel and rose gold? I would vote for tantalum as well

Steel was already a big stretch for me

 By: Adilo : June 4th, 2024-07:00
It exudes classicism, very VC ...

Superbly captured.

 By: amanico : June 4th, 2024-07:46

Thanks!

 By: Adilo : June 4th, 2024-10:47

Black dial? Why not?

 By: amanico : June 3rd, 2024-14:43

I'd be in for Yellow Gold and Black Dial

 By: MZHammer : July 1st, 2024-20:58
Wei Koh's is the only Yellow Gold CDV I know of and is a killer. Do a dark grey / chalkboard dial, the dots indexes, pulsation scale and a Breguet 12 and 6 please... ...

Nicely popping.

 By: hora12reborn : June 3rd, 2024-15:45

Have affection for all these iterations, mon ami.

 By: bruckner4 : June 3rd, 2024-14:35
My heart said ā€œplatinumā€; my budget screamed ā€œsteel!ā€ ...

I totally understand.

 By: amanico : June 3rd, 2024-14:44

I had tried to get the grey hodinkee version from EWCā€¦

 By: ArmisT : June 3rd, 2024-16:21
but couldnā€™t make price work. I havenā€™t seen any more of these on offer since the past few years. A tantalum version would be great, but it depends more on the dial. A darker color like blue would be needed with a tantalum case.

Agreed.

Variations on the dial and movement

 By: jmpTT : June 3rd, 2024-17:55
Let's remember that the beloved 4178 was in production for decades, with quite a bit of variation in the case materials and even the dials. There is no question that the Cornes de Vache is one of my favourite chronographs made today, but the sub-dial spac...

While I really like CdV and wish I could afford one

 By: loujo : June 3rd, 2024-21:43
One area I like Les Historiques more is the dial. More specifically, the metal rings around the sub dials and the tachymeter on the main dial really gives the watch a soft sheen and 3 dimensionality. I wish VC could update CdVā€™s dial similarly. ...

The CDV is on my list. Have wanted one for quite some times but other projects have gotten in the way. In the interim

 By: Mitch K : June 3rd, 2024-23:07
the price has increased significantly sadly. But will search for one. As far as case material on this particular piece I am not in favor of the ā€œnewā€ material. This is part of the historique series and as such I think it should be presented with classic m...

You have a point!

Such as?

 By: quattro_spirit : June 5th, 2024-20:19
Let's not forget Wei Koh's bespoke yellow gold piece with smoked silver dial, pulsometer and round applied indexes! ...

Not bad, this one!

 By: amanico : June 5th, 2024-20:54

Design wise

 By: quattro_spirit : June 7th, 2024-08:29
I think the inscription Ā« GraduĆ© pour 30 pulsations Ā» has to fill a lot of empty space and imaginary wise the tachometer conveys a more sporty idea of speed, whereas the pulsometer conveys the idea of health. And even if I know itā€™s very personal, I prefe...
