I've been interested in pocket watches since I was a teenager
Hi Dean,
The first PW I ever bought was through a catalog store, Service Merchandise, in the late 70s/early 80s. I've always been a little non-conformist 
The CR, being an antique, is not a watch I plan on using long-term in a daily manner. I just wanted to see how it would perform "in the field" over a representative period of time of 2 weeks. After that, it will be taken out for occasional use - spending most of its time in a nice leather pouch. Much more pampered than the vast majority of CRs that were sent to the difficult environmental conditions of South America.
What I have found out so far is that it appears to be the most accurate when in a dial down position (vs. being the most accurate on a timing machine when in the "Pendant Down" position). The PW actual spends a good bit of time in this dial down position if I am wearing dress pants, as I put it in a front pocket and when in a sitting position, the PW is Pendant Down. (Just make sure to not put anything else in that pocket). I'm pretty enamored with PWs right now - I just love taking it out, holding it in my hand and just looking at it. I believe a next acquisition will be a PW as well, but haven't found any that fits my requirements yet.
Another thing I've notice is that in hot weather, carrying it is more comfortable than wearing a metal bracelet watch - which still sticks to the wrist when there is a little sweat.

are you sure the COSC certificate was not given at a later date as
COSC was created in 1973 wheras your watch is from the 50s!

I'd speculate that when Bill's watch was serviced or restored, it was also adjusted and a record was provided of the results.

Early COSC certificate
This early COSC certificate for a Rolex shows "Especially Good Results" also pre-printed on the form. The original Observatory Trials only assigned that distinction to movements that scored 80% of available points versus the passing grade of 66%....
