Completely agree. I found it fascinating that the same

 

basic escapement that was winning Observatory trials in the 1940's (JLC Calibre 170) was again winning some 60 years later.  Have a look at the escapement and bridge design - extraordinary.  Vacheron were one of the clients of the 170 base ebauche who then turned the (pocket) watches into Observatory trialists with their own finishing/re-working.  MJLC has every right to be proud of the heritage and I too salute them for being first out of the blocks in the modern time trial era.

Thanks for the great post - wish there were more along the same lines.  What would be good is if manufacturers and watch-nuts realized that there are aesthetics in chronometric precision that should be highlighted and emphasised rather than yet another material for the same case where the movement itself remains the same.
