Don't get me wrong, I am big on personal responsibility. I understand that mine is out of warranty so I did expect there to be a cost of repairs. But I could have never imagined that Apple would simply refuse to repair iPods and then only offer 10% (10!!!!!!!!!) off a new one.

I don't want to be the devil's associate, BUT you can't say you don't want to hear about touch screen therefor it is the future... heard about microsoft's SURFACE ?
touch screen is obviously the future IMO
but when u ONLY have a touch screen on a phone, given the size of our fingers, that just doesn't make sense. IPhone's screen is bigger, but the touch screen part of the keyboard is still too small. Even Steve Jobs made some typos (he fixed them of course)...

We converted to Mac at home a couple years ago and have been completely problem free. Let's hope it stays that way. But I must say, our experience overall has been excellent.
