I've been through a few Linn systems, from and entry-level to a top flight system based around the CD12, Klimax 500 amps and Klimax Control Pre-Amp to what I have now, an A/V system based around a Unidisk 1.1 and "aktiv" amps and speakers (i.e., different amps drive different speaker drivers via active crossovers, which means no musicality and power loss associated w/ a passive crossover....(sorry if you already know this)). My first high-end audio system was a Linn system and I've been a big fan ever since. What I like about Linn is the ascendancy of musicality over audiophile artifacts which all too often accompany high-end audio gear. Ever been to a small-venue live jazz concert? Can you hear a "soundstage" with the cymbals ringing ten feet apart from the upright bass? I can't...
The Akurate range is very good. Did you hear the "DS" system or the CD-based system?

The fact that the entire chassis of the other player was inside the $3500 model is amazing. For some reason the first thought that pops to mind right now is, "There's a sucker born every minute." Oh, well. If you have the extra $3,000 to burn then why not...

I guess if you already have other lexicon products you could afford to match! That's a huge premium to pay for the name. Funny that they got caught and still play it off like it's no big deal and that they could justify the extra cost. -MW

They could've improved the power supply...
They could've done something even trivial, such as increase the surge protection and the "refinement" of the electrical power supply. But they didn't even do that... That would've been an easy fix.
