Strayer-Voigt Infinity 2011

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-04:47
Well gents, after a rather epic 13 year wait, from the time a venerable old (no longer active) member known as 'DRMW' infected me with the '2011 Infinity bug', it is with particularly great pleasure that I present to you the completely bespoke traditional...

Spectacular!

 By: mdg : May 12th, 2023-04:52

I wholeheartedly agree :)))

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-05:02
It is truly worth every penny! The gun itself is around $6K, and I ordered another thousand or so in accessories....

The problem these days is finding ammo...

 By: mdg : May 12th, 2023-23:19
...even at premium prices...

No question about it!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-23:34
That's why I'd enjoy living in a state other than CA where I can buy bulk ammo at half the price of what it costs locally!

Thank you my friend :)

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-05:16
I am totally chuffed to bits with it. What can I say, I am such a staunch traditionalist when it comes to firearms - 1911/2011s and revolvers are simply the most beautiful firearms ever made, and when you take that form to its absolute apex, like in this ...

My bespoke experience is limited to clothing.

 By: Steve E : May 12th, 2023-06:11
There's something appealing about bespoke in an almost subconcious way. A trouser pocket cut to the exact depth for your hand, or a perfect shirt cuff length. When everything is made just right it almost makes you forget it's there. I would imagine your n...

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-06:20
What you are effectively describing there applies to almost any luxury product category . I did promise myself I'd end up getting a bespoke suit at some point in life, it's just that I've almost never worn suits for work, so I haven't had a practical need...

Filip, your text and explanations are expressing just pure emotion and joy!

 By: RayStantzPhD : May 12th, 2023-06:23
CONGRATS! I have to say that in this case I can at least appreciate the craftsmanship, which seems to be exceptional. Cheers, Alex

Thank you Alex!!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-06:31

It sure is!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-06:33
It shows that you've been active here far too seldomly. By the way, I live in the USA, and work in a law enforcement capacity .... Cheers, Filip

Very cool

 By: m2 : May 12th, 2023-07:11
If I was in the US longterm, I would totally fall into this hobby too!

I actually first came....

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-07:21
into it as a hobby! Throughout my teenage years and early twenties, me and my brother had about a dozen different bb guns, but we didn't start buying actual firearms until the early 2010s due to having traveled extensively between the US and Europe. Then ...

I love these hand crafted metal products!

It is good to see other people appreciating them! Do you plan to use it at the shooting range or is it more something for display? Does it shoot well or is it a feat that is easy to achieve? (I know nothing about arms). Very happy for you, and it matches ...

Well, long story

Indeed!

That is a cool magazine cover!

Extremely cool and congratulations your posts are always informative😁…

Having a limited experience…competitive rifle, skeet and trap in college, I don’t know much about fine firearms. None of my Omegas are safe queens. They are all practical and all get at least some use. As a photographer I would always pick a Nikon slr ove...

Great analogy with photography cameras!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:05
I actually had a Nikon DSLR myself, totally agree with you on that point. What you are asking is literally dead-on. Infinity and its sibling Staccato (formerly STI) both began as competition gun makers. One went more into unlimited production of pre-specc...

Super cool!

 By: TeutonicCarFan : May 12th, 2023-12:11
Not much beats a custom 1911. Good watch pairing too!

The colors really do match particularly well!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:14
I didn't know up front what shade of orange the details on the gun would turn out in, but they totally nailed it relative to what I had in mind. Sincerely appreciate your comment! Cheers, Filip

What a great looking pistol.

 By: Champthekid : May 12th, 2023-12:30
I’m guessing that is not for EDC 😄 Enjoy it!

LoL, no....

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:17
But they do offer a compact size custom gun that I would happily EDC, it's just not available to order in California, but since I now have family in Florida that can easily be constructively addressed.... The carry model is called Tiki - google some pictu...

Thanks for the information.

 By: Champthekid : May 15th, 2023-17:20
I’m going to look it up.

My pleasure,

 By: InHavenPro : May 15th, 2023-18:25
They actually do make Commander and Officer size single stack 1911s, but the Tiki is truly the bespoke carry gun to get from them in my opinion ........

So, I had a few additional minutes to parse through their online gallery....

 By: InHavenPro : May 15th, 2023-20:24
Given that I am myself interested in ordering a Tiki for concealed carry next, at some point in the foreseeable future. The first five pictures are of their Tiki pistol, being easily identified by the one of a kind front sight in the form of a central cha...

Thank you so much!

 By: Champthekid : May 15th, 2023-22:20
Everyone of those are incredible. My current EDC is either the Springfield Hellcat or a Glock 43x because I like the safety in the trigger. Anyone of those would be a nice upgrade. Again, thank you for posting these! Regards, Steve

Absolutely, anytime! =)

 By: InHavenPro : May 15th, 2023-22:30

Incredible piece of craftsmanship here

 By: MichaelC : May 12th, 2023-12:32
I have remarked over the years about overlaps between watchmaking and gunmaking. There really are similarities in machining and precision. Congratulations dear Sir! PS, Ming and Ed are immensely missed here.

Thanks a bunch Michael!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:19
I profusely appreciate your densely experienced sentiments! Yes, I agree, both Woos' contributions are genuinely missed on here, why they decided to depart so suddenly is beyond me, but people do as they please, so from my perspective good luck to both of...

Beautiful, quite Hermes-ish shall I say!

 By: Arronax : May 12th, 2023-12:40
Especially with the orange accents! Being a doxa fanboy I love orange but may have gone for red in this case I'm curious about the shape of the trigger being square rather than round, what's the rationale if you don't mind explaining?

Yes!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:24
A Hermes-type color combo . Orange is my favorite strong color, it's been so since early childhood. They offer both curved and flat (or as you say squared) triggers. It's ultimately personal preference - theoretically it is slightly easier to achieve a mo...

Filip, that's nice one.

 By: Thomas_3 : May 12th, 2023-12:50
I went down that rabbit hole, 1911's can be addicting. I am at 2 right now and have a couple more in mind. Tom

Oh man....

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:26
I love them so much I could easily end up with ten, but fortunately I do have a rather rational mindset so despite loving them endlessly, I can manage to keep my actual expenditures in check ........

A friend of mine and I were discussing 1911's recently and

 By: Thomas_3 : May 12th, 2023-14:49
It came out that he has 11, and that is just the Kimbers he has, he didn't say how many total he has but I know of at least a couple more.

=)))

Who knows.... When I get into senior citizen age territory - anything might happen ........

With all the polymer frame striker-fired firearms available today...

 By: LS : May 12th, 2023-13:43
I must say it is refreshing to see a finely crafted gun like the one you have here.

Yes.

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-14:27
I agree with you completely, and that doesn't mean that there aren't some polymer handguns that I like a great deal! I'm especially fond of FNs.... Cheers, Filip

Wow, that looks awesome!

 By: RabidManatee : May 12th, 2023-16:08
Glad to read that it’s not just going to be a “safe queen.” Hope it shoots as good as it looks. Congrats!

Yet to be tested :)

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-16:14
I'll definitely make some dedicated time for that before the month ends . I never saw the point of having 'safe queens' in any product category ........

'Use it or lose it' ;)

A long time ago....

 By: InHavenPro : May 13th, 2023-04:52
There was a TV show where some 'professional organizers' told people what do do with their belongings. Anyway, the show was dumb, but one of those people did say one thing that stuck with me to this day - you don't really need anything that you haven't us...

I like that. Thanks.

 By: RabidManatee : May 13th, 2023-20:04

I am not into firearms...

 By: S F : May 12th, 2023-16:56
but from your pix, I can appreciate it is well crafted and eye catching. Congrats!

Thank you very much!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-17:23

Huge congrats! SVI is THE best 👌

 By: Fastwong : May 12th, 2023-17:52
Lots of new entries ever since the patent expired but SVI is still imho the absolute best. A shame most people will never see or experience something like this, it's like living in a world of boring family sedans not even knowing Ferraris exist.

100%

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-18:34
Couldn't agree with you more!!

Not sure if I follow....

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-18:03
But hey, I welcome all inclinations and perspectives, including those that are anti-firearms ....

LoL, that's a first then!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-18:32
Would totally love to hear your perspective!....

Strong critique, not sure it's fair

 By: Fastwong : May 12th, 2023-19:23
Not sure about the firing pin hole but the breach face looks dirty hard to say if that's machining or dirt streaks. As for the trigger, I see nothing wrong. The hex is for over travel adjustment, may also be to hold in the trigger shoe in if this is two-p...

Wow Fastwong!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-20:40
That is one sublime piece of kit as well . I totally love the ported and comped slide, I presume this particular gun only serves for cutting-edge target practice .... Everything you mention here is indeed accurate, my images were all taken immediately fol...

Thanks! Mine is a specific build for sure but that's what makes these so fun!

 By: Fastwong : May 13th, 2023-00:34
I think this will be a fun journey down the rabbit hole of racey 1911s. Can't wait to hear more as you get used to it! Over lubed is probably just right 😀 Just like a race car you can tune these right to the edge and beyond so it gets to the level where c...

Thank you so much,

 By: InHavenPro : May 13th, 2023-00:37
of course, I am hyper eager to start shooting the gun regularly, it will definitely happen before the month ends. I will also take some images when I first field strip and clean the gun, but that's probably going to be after I shoot it for the first time....

Could you please write what your criticisms are again??

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-20:58
I don't see them written anywhere, perhaps you edited your post or it simply didn't upload as intended........

Great!

 By: InHavenPro : May 12th, 2023-22:57
Love it, some of your questions are exactly what I'd be interested in knowing as well! The firing pin hole and machining finish are questions I don't know the answer to by default, I will email them next week and ask. I did take note of the internal finis...

Hey! :))

I genuinely humble myself before anyone who's got half the credentials that he's claiming to have! As I mentioned in my answer to him, I will obtain an official factory answer next week! Hugely curious myself .....

OK.... Macro pictures galore........

 By: InHavenPro : May 14th, 2023-22:07
I spent the bulk of the past day disassembling and fiddling with each component of the gun separately, and after cleaning out the oil/lube/grease residues it is clear to me that the machining on the surface of the components is nothing short of exemplary....

My understanding....

 By: InHavenPro : May 16th, 2023-17:36
Despite not yet having the opportunity to visit the factory in Texas myself is that each and every component is CNC machined from billet aluminum and subsequently finished and fitted by hand.... That's where the bulk of the $6-9K cost for these guns comes...

So, what is it succinctly that you specifically....

 By: InHavenPro : May 16th, 2023-21:59

I'm still unsure of....

 By: InHavenPro : May 17th, 2023-00:11
why they packaged the gun from the factory so excessively greased up. Perhaps it's an indicator of how they see it ought to be ran with grease and lubricants.... I cleaned it up, and reapplied lube to all rails and the barrel exterior itself, and added a ...

Aluminium can 'gall' and bind/jam (more easily than steels used for firearms), which may explain the copious lube. That said, are the slide & frame ...

 By: kjkt3 : May 17th, 2023-00:32
really aluminium or did I mis-read it? If they are, I'm very surprised for one obvious reasons: its weight doesn't suit the recoil of the 1911A1 (Newton's 3rd Law) - it's just too light for a heavy-recoiling gun.

I apologize for not elaborating well enough previously!....

 By: InHavenPro : May 17th, 2023-01:52
The slide, external frame and the wide grip are all actually made out of carbon steel, precisely due to the reasons you point out, I don't even think that they offer aluminum slides.... It's only the FCU key internal components that are machined billet al...

Good! Returning now to lubrication, there's an old saying in gun making, 'Tool marks make good bearing surfaces.' This is because they retain oil, of course.

 By: kjkt3 : May 17th, 2023-10:21
Perhaps counter-intuitively, two perfect un-marked bearing surfaces can be difficult to lubricate, especially where high temperature & pressure are generated with consequent expansion. So, this may be why S-V slather their immaculately finished guns i...

I haven't gotten to look at any titanium parts per-se, I know that they are particularly fond of making compensators out of titanium because it increases their longevity many-fold (relative to aluminum). I believe that they used to offer slides in titaniu...

 By: InHavenPro : May 18th, 2023-16:17
Although it isn't much different to other bespoke 1911 makers, perhaps even less than some of the others, at least here in the US. By being sparse in optioning my own, I kept it close to the 'starting price' for one of their guns which I think is around $...
