To all wonderful purists here,
I just wanted to tell you a short incident that I've been "annoying" about for the entire vacation... And a lesson! 😉
Shortly before my New Year's Eve vacation, I (as we all) were „bombarded“ with terror news from the Middle East by the media (including a famous German luxury watch influencer, who therefore only ever takes his cheap Seiko with him as a vacation watch), that I spontaneously bought a Seiko - and left all my other watches at home.
Without thinking. Which I've never done before.
Now I'm sitting here in Oman, the safest and most peaceful country in the Middle East, in a wonderful peaceful resort on the beach in the sunrise with a cheap Seiko on my hand and I think often:
“Actually, you would much rather dive into the sea with one of your nice sportive holiday watches that “really” mean something to you (BP Fifty fathoms, Panerai Submersible, Ulysse Nardin Marine, VC Overseas, or “just” a Rolex Sub) - Or see them sparkling in the sun…“
You never stop learning! ☺️
P.S. But life is often kind to us.
Not always faster, higher, further!
“What you learn to know, you also learn to love” - and suddenly I slowly become happy about my 300 euro watch on my wrist every new morning. The dial sparkles in the sun just like that of the 100 times more expensive Overseas... (Well: almost!!! 😂)
With this in mind: A happy new year 2024 to all!
Martin
P.S. And as far as the many price increases of some luxury brands (not only, but especially the Richmont Group) are concerned, and the investment funds behind them are simply greedy: we as watch lovers have to develop a new, different, healthier attitude than “higher, faster, further”… again back to values like before “value, real craftsmanship and less show for money”…
