My Rolex Explorer 214270 story This article is not intended to be a review, dear reader (as that has been done to death), but an account of my time with my Explorer. As many young men seem to have done I purchased my Explorer after coming in to some money...

.....but I would add a number of points. First, in my mind, the Explorer is perhaps one of the most anonymous Rolex in the range. The classic icon is the Submariner. You can spot a Submariner from 100yds. The Explorer is a watch that, in my view, rally go... 

I've been bitten by vintage Rolex before, it really turned me too to be honest boys! Plus I want it to be fully functional, waterproof etc. I'm thinking maybe waiting to see what the next refresh of the Ingenieur is like, I love Genta's integrated bracele... 

But in your case I think Nicholas is right. It\'s seems your tastes run towards heritage style pieces. Either way you\'ll have a very nice watch. Good luck.

Loved reading your thoughts on you watch taste and how it has evolved over time. My personal choice, of course, would be the 5513 Sub. I am a little biased about this watch as you can see by my post a few down on the feed. I love having it in a strap inst... 

I love vintage Rolex as much as anyone, the problem is the place of this watch in the collection is the 'go anywhere, do anything' watch. I'm really not sure what beats it, objectively speaking.

From what I understand you want tough Rolex i.e. waterproof i.e. carefree and vintage seems not to fit that goal. However, vintage is not always vintage. True vintage at is purest level is a Rolex with a 4 digit model number and a plastic / plexi crystal ... 

While of course still being stylish and acceptable in lots of situations. The advantage of Rolex, it's what they're known for in some circles. The submariner is probably the only watch you can wear over a long hard day of commercial diving and then to the... 

I started into watches with a Sea-Dweller 16600. In my mind "the last watch I will ever buy".... After that I got a few more... Your taste changes, your interest area changes, you evolve over time... Like a watch - from being new to becoming vintage... An...

I think the new 214270 announced at Baselworld is the 'modern' Explorer that they should have released the first time around, so sadly a lot of previous 214270 owners are in the same spot as you. I would suggest selling it for the new Explorer or perhaps ... 

... and I know the online article of which you speak and agree with much of what was written therein about the old-vs-new models. That being said, I still really like the newer 39mm Explorer variants, and I'm not sure I'd trade one, esp. if it was my firs...
