He felt that Roman numerals aren't in as much demand as baton indices or Arabic numerals. He added that when buyers do want Roman numerals they prefer them applied, and Rolex delivers accordingly. That would appear to explain it.

A Datejust can hardly be described as a daring choice. On Chrono24 it was the third most popular watch in 2020 after two other Rolexes (the GMT-Master II and the Submariner). I've always wanted one and I do like modern iterations, but my watch collecting has taken a long and circuitous route before getting here. I'm drawn to the Buckley dial version because it's both distinctively Datejust and also atypical. The pairing of solid yellow gold with the red-burgundy side-stitched strap blends formal and informal nicely too, in my eye. The overall composition, at 36mm, delivers a pint-sized punch.
