Hello all. Here it is.

It arrived yesterday and I have to say I gasped at its cosmetic condition. It's been serviced thoroughly (not polished) and is good for a few years to come without further attention.

Datejusts come in so many thousands of varieties, it's nice to have one that keeps it simple. For me, 18K yellow gold at 36mm is just about right.

Questions about this Rolex Datejust 16018 - Buckley dial

 By: Rosneathian : January 21st, 2021-16:26
Hello All. I've just bought this 1978 Datejust from a well-know merchant in Bordeaux, France. It's had two previous owners - both professional collectors - so comes in near-original condition. It's also been recently serviced. I'm going to pay a visit to ...

The first shot is beautiful,

As well as the dial of your Datejust, with those large roman numerals and tritium lume dots. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Mary Anny

I've noticed that Buckley dial Datejusts do not get much attention from general Rolex fans. That seems to be the case across fora. It's been about 12 years since they acquired the nickname and, while this has prompted some interest, it's still a sleeper. ...

I am not a particular fan either,

Although yours's terrific, the gold case, the strap, the dial colour tone. .. Enjoy it.

👍

I wonder why that is?

I agree with you in terms of these dials being very distinctive, and looking at the Rolex catalogue they do stand out. Do you think that some dials, based on colour and the case they sit in, are maybe too classic in styling for the newer collector and so ...

Another poster made a similar point to yours on aa different forum

He felt that Roman numerals aren't in as much demand as baton indices or Arabic numerals. He added that when buyers do want Roman numerals they prefer them applied, and Rolex delivers accordingly. That would appear to explain it. A Datejust can hardly be ...

For what it’s worth, I’m a Buckley fan too.

Most interesting in both Datejust and DD format. ...

Lovely. I toyed with the idea of combining my like for a Buckley with a Day Date too.

In the end I took the simpler route. I think it'll work better with the lifestyle I've found myself in. Enjoy yours. I'm sure it's a very private treat.

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing some pictures once you have yours on the wrist.

I purchased my very first vintage Rolex from Mr Buckley, in the mid 2000’s. I was a regular lurker on the vintage forum at the time and that’s how I came across him.

Happy to. Best regards.

Hello Age of Surfaces! You got a very beautiful Datejust!

Love the contrast of the white Buckley dial against the gold case and enhanced by the redish vintage type straps. Guess it would look terrific with a red croco strap as well. I like the Buckley dials so much. As a matter of fact these painted roman indexe...

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to share your story and photographs

I enjoyed reading it and looking at the pictures. I have one other Rolex - similar to one my father owned - and this is my first Datejust. I've spent most of my watch collecting adventure elsewhere but have always liked the conservative look of this watch...

Hello again Age of Surfaces. My big pleasure to share my own experience. Nice to know you own another Rolex as well. As told in my previous message, painted roman numerals were widely popular in the 1970´s and 1980´s ...

... but somehow Rolex changed for other types of indexes which catched the favor of clients of the brand. Notwithstanding Rolex kept offering both the DJ and DD with both painted and applied Roman numerals as well even in the present. I feel the so called...
