If a watch is purely something to be worn as a display of wealth then you could argue the bigger and shinier the better. If the main purpose is to look elegant then you would want something in proportion with your wrist. If it is a celebration of the engineering involved then size is irrelevant. Depends on how prioritze things

Size is no different to shape, material or any other watch property. It's a personal matter of taste. Buying watches is such a personal (even egoistic) pleasure for me. If I like it, can afford it and can get the Mrs to approve it, that's all that matters...

Size is a very subjective issue. I wear watches from 36mm to 45mm. The most important question is: Does the watch make me smile?

What Baron says is spot on. Your wrist can and should carry any watch (regardless of size) that makes you happy. If it is your dream watch, that is all that matters.

It accentuates the size of the watch. A looser cuff might help and draw less attention to the wrist size.
