They're not going to create a new calibre for each different watch, just avoid extremes I guess!
All brands have to do with costs obviously (unfortunately).

I noted something that seemed to be an anomaly, though: did they really try to tell you that watch size is dictated by movement size? If so, they seem to be giving themselves quite a lot of leeway with some of the new models.
