If you could ask.... in fact I asked!

A few weeks ago I offered you to ask questions to Patek Philippe. Obviously you can always ask. You can easily ask by email any company. As we say in my country (and probably in yours too) you can always ask, only answers are indiscreet. Don't wait for in...

Well yes and no!

 By: Dje : July 29th, 2009-13:24
Hi Julian, In fact if Mr Stern pays such a price for a watch, that's only because another collector stopped just before. So without him all watches he bought would have sold and probably for nearly as much! Does that make sense? Cheers Dje

Many Thanks for your kind efforts Dje. Also to Patek Philippe

for their answers. Best regards, -- Richard.

You're welcome Richard.

 By: Dje : August 2nd, 2009-05:37
Hi Richard, Thank you for your comments. Patek Philippe is certainly willing to avoid the circulation of rumours or false information, so they're open to answer if it's not a secret. Cheers Dje

Very interesting, Jerome

Thanks a lot for this thread, my friend. There are 3 very interesting thing, IMO: 1/ The " thing " is in the pipe. Now, I will have to patiently wait, before deciding which chrono will be added to my collection. Dreams...And Hopes. 2/ 2014 will be an impo...

Hi, Thank you for your support. Regarding the Patek Philippe Seal I understand your point but you could also consider: 1) that the Patek Philippe Seal is very discreet. There's nothing on the dial. 2) nobody was annoyed before to see the Geneva Seal on th...

One thing about the 42 mm 5070 I quote ; " You asked if Patek Philippe is considering making watches with a larger case. In fact the internal rule is that the size should be dictated by the housed calibre. Considering that another rule states that the cal...

You're right Bruno!

 By: Dje : August 2nd, 2009-06:22
Hi Bruno, Thank you for your comments and thank you for reminding us this inspiration for the 5070. Still not choosing to keep a 45mm diameter, they could have made it 38mm too! In fact I think the only serious reproach I've read about the gorgeous 5070 i...

and as Nicolas said, I wait anxiously for the manual wind chrono. I recall the exciting bidding for the steel pilot in Geneva, certainly a notable addition to the museum.

So you admit it is still possible to add something to the Museum!

 By: Dje : August 2nd, 2009-06:25
Hi, Thank you for your comments. About the Museum I can just say: unbelievable! The quality and variety of pieces shown is fantastic. It deserves a Geneva visit just for itself! Cheers Dje

Thanks Jerome, it's a super wonderful read :-)

Now that we know that Patek doesn't use laser welding technique, I start to wonder will they allow the collector to get a fresh case should their watch is severely damaged or dinged. Just being curious. I know Lange and FP Journe will allow that. Cheers, ...

I found the answers regarding a hacking complication interesting, didn't realise that they would have to design a new calibre!

Hi, I understand your question. Regarding vintage watches they try to keep as many original pieces as possible. I can't imagine replacing a vintage case (they certainly would not have the spare case anyway). Regarding new watches I can ask if you really w...

I didn't have any specific questions, but I did have some holes in my mind that needed filling. These have helped fill many of those holes. Thanks Dje and many thanks to Missus Steele and Mister Jaquet at Patek Philippe for answering our questions.

Thank you Patrick! nt

Very interesting and informative. Thank you.

 By: mkvc : July 30th, 2009-00:24
I noted something that seemed to be an anomaly, though: did they really try to tell you that watch size is dictated by movement size? If so, they seem to be giving themselves quite a lot of leeway with some of the new models.

To some extent that's what they mean!

 By: Dje : August 2nd, 2009-06:33
Hi, Then you can imagine that they want to offer a variety of watches, so a variety of sizes! They're not going to create a new calibre for each different watch, just avoid extremes I guess! All brands have to do with costs obviously (unfortunately). Chee...

Thanks for being our ambassador to the land of Patek Phillipe. There was a lot to enjoy in your post, both words and photos. I look forward to seeing what PP offers up in the future. Cheers, Daos

Many thanks for your insightful report. Patek Philippe is a mystery in so many ways; while being a leader they seem to do so by inovating without making huge changes, said differently they are constantly changing while remaining exactly the same (very tru...

for taking the time and effort to answer all our questions. So perhaps it's time to get the 5196P as the cal.215 will stay for sometime, but then again the 5970P is also very tempting even just seeing the case picture. Maybe the new in-house manual chrono...

5196P and 5970P?
