Patek Philippe

That's an interesting topic

and it is very interesting reading about purists' feelings.

I'm not a Patek collector as I have only one and that my goal is to be able to wear the watches I like most.

Hence, all watches I get must be worn, otherwise, they go. I realised that even if I have loved some watches on the long run there is a time when my appeal may change, because of the size, the weight (comfort is very important for me), the style etc...

In the end, after around 8 years I came to understand more and more how I want a watch to be and what elements would be an abstacle.

I came to Patek after a long while, it wasn't the brand that attracted me at the beginning. However, after I learned how to observe and enjoy watchmaking, they became one of my favorite on every level.

However, in the end, it is not the brand that makes me buy a watch but what it brings. Thus, I can buy nearly any brand as long as many elements are gathered. That's why I keep telling our friends that what matters is how a watch will please us if we wear it on the long run. It is not a matter of getting the most popular on a forum, the ones we get the best rebate for etc...

I've been wearing my 5712 for several months in a row last year until it went for a servicing, then 3 months of my Speedmaster Mark IV, then around 6 months again of 5712 and, since October, the Omega again. I enjoy them both a lot, even though they are from two very different worlds.

Independent watchmaking is another world that I don't compare to traditional brands. I like them a lot too and enjoy following them.

About Rolex, I love that brand too. Sober, reliable, accurate, very enjoyable in what it is giving. I've been looking at them a lot (Daytona, Sub or GMT) but don't have one yet. Maybe in the future.

I'm more attracted by modern watches because of the size, reliability and because they can be used everyday. It is not that easy with vintage (humidity, scratches, resistance etc...).

In the end, a watch I consider getting or keeping must be an everyday watch, worn with a lot of pleasure.

Enjoy your nice collection Joe and thanks for sharing your views on your watch collecting smile

Best, Mark
