Simple...
... IMO, the 5970R is one of the nicest Patek, in the nicest metal... Basically its my grail watch. Closest as possible to perfection. You seem to agree with me on the warmth of the RG, and how this watch is a step above the YG and the WG. Point is : How to let go such a beauty, in favor of another, while ur so convinced of it?
I would compare the Platinum to the WG... and even then i find the WG a notch above, nicer , more readable dial, that allows u to switch different colours of strap ( thanks to the white dial ).
Personally, i wouldn't go for it even if i jst like. I would ask myself, why to go for it? Is it jst because i got kind of used to my RG and i am tempted by something "new" that is also nice but has something , i don't know what, that jst don't feel as right as what i have?? You might need to ask urself, how will u feel after owning it for a while?
Another important thing, how did u feel better getting ur RG?
When u will be sitting in front of ur AD, with ur 5970R on the table, and u will have to leave it behind along with a big check... how would u feel?
If its an investment issue, and u really like the platinum, and of course if u can afford it, i would take it and keep the RG, as they still look different
Still, nice dilemma, even if i wouldn't take too long to decide

I would not buy it
If you have the 5970R and think this is the best looking 5970, keep the 5970R ! If you need to sell other watches before you can buy the 5970P it depends on how much you like those others. If money isn't a problem and you could buy it without any problem ...
Simple:
Go to your AD with your 5970 RG on your wrist, and then have a look in real on the 5970P. Then follow your heart, you will know if the 5970P is worth sacrificing your 5970 RG and some other watches you obviously love a lot. Best, Nicolas

for me, i'll take both. that's a great collection in my opinion, and sell the others. but, it may not be for you or others as posted. I think it's a personal decision that nobody can answer for you.
Two dilemmas!

Keep the 5970R
You definitely want to keep the 5970R. Doesn't seem like you like the 5970P that much, don't feel obligated to buy something just because your AD has something rare available.
If it is about 'collectibility'

Just take the plunge, it you find after wearing the P for several weeks it's not for you then sell and trade up to a 5074P, My holiest of the holy grails on my wish list.

....if comments were kept positive. Saying things like the 5970P looks terrible is just an opinion and actually not especially helpful. And, for me, I am much more likely to participate in a debate if its kept positive...or at a minimum avoids negativity.

to 5970P, it seem many view Patek as kind of stock for investment. When watches like 5712, 5980 were "HOT", there were lots of praises etc etc, but now it seem those "passions" died down. I am amazed at comments like "lack of legibility" or "size of date ...

Reading what you have already written, I agree with your decision. Keep the watch that you love. For me I want to say buy the 5970P, but that is only because it is one of my grail watches. Please keep us updated with what you decide to do.

if you'd buy 5970p, I think it would be for 'wrong reasons'. If it was a watch meant for you, you'd not need to ask perfect strangers about how to spend your $130,000 BTW, I had 5970P on my wrist.....nice....but not my cuppa tee....
