I have seen the 5970P in metal recently...
It doesn't look great in metal other than it's a 5970 PLATINUM.
I will be very blunt with you and hope it will help. If rarity is the attraction, this piece will fade very quickly in your heart as
it belongs to one that's 'very sought after' because of its rarer metal and the hype. Compare it to your 5970R, yours will seem more attractive.
When I first saw the photo, I was disappointed but I was curious when some sang high praise about it after seeing the watch in person.
So when I finally see it in person , next to my 5970G......it's really not as nice or classic.
All metals of 5970 are very handsome pieces. They all look very nice by itself but if you have to let me choose and compare all of them together , side by side......
it will not be a 5970P due to its black dial, white chrono hand and enlarged dates (3970P and 5004P with black dial looks better and more elegant dues to its smaller size). My personal preference is 5970J but I already have another yellow gold piece coming
Back to your question, if you can....get both and try it for a few months. Then you can decide which one to sell away and will not have any regret.
But if you sell away your 5970R without seeing the 5970P in metal, you may be disappointed .
Either watch is great , but you have to decide which one is the one to spend it on your wrist the lifetime.
Cheers,

5970 Dilemma?????

I find myself in a situation......I have been offered a 5970p at list price from my AD....But I already own what I think is the most beautiful 5970. For me the 5970rg is just perfect....The warmth of the Pink gold is just fantastic....I have held all the ...

A few observations 1. You love your 5970Rg 2. You are ambivalent about the platinum model 3. You feel that the plat model is possibly more deirable than the rg but 4. you would either have to break your one model rule or 5.sell some of your watches. Both ...

to buy just because it is tempting, NICE but NOT nice enough to push you over the edge to buy, to buy just because it is something we can give to our sons, I say walk away. Regret over not getting something can be resolved with the passage of time and inf...

... IMO, the 5970R is one of the nicest Patek, in the nicest metal... Basically its my grail watch. Closest as possible to perfection. You seem to agree with me on the warmth of the RG, and how this watch is a step above the YG and the WG. Point is : How ...
I would not buy it

If you have the 5970R and think this is the best looking 5970, keep the 5970R ! If you need to sell other watches before you can buy the 5970P it depends on how much you like those others. If money isn't a problem and you could buy it without any problem ...

Go to your AD with your 5970 RG on your wrist, and then have a look in real on the 5970P. Then follow your heart, you will know if the 5970P is worth sacrificing your 5970 RG and some other watches you obviously love a lot. Best, Nicolas
Two dilemmas!
By: Eric09 : May 31st, 2009-08:50
Dear Miles If you don't buy it, you will have another dilemma: Which one of your sons - you seem to have more than one - gets the 5970R?? If you have two sons, each of them will get a 5970, if you bought the 5970P. Then, they will have to decide on the me...

Hello Miles, I agree with Bruno's advise. If you have to sell one to buy this, then think twice before making any move. I see we both agree the 5970R is our holy grail of PP collections. In that case, the 5970P would really have to stir my blood before I ...
Miles, keep the 5970R
By: BLembkey : May 31st, 2009-16:03
Miles, unless you can afford both the 5970R and 5970P, I wouldn't give up a watch that I love for one that might be a bit more collectible. If you could afford both, then by all means buy both. I think all watches of the 5970 series will be collectible. I...

It seems some of the guys who are lucky and already own a 5970 have a little problem with the new platinum version. Hey, every 5970 is gorgeous and important! If I would be in this position I'd have a little problem, too. Thinking:" DAMNED, IT'S REALY NIC...

there is nobody on this site that can lay claim to knowing what is the nicer of the two. Some say the black dial and platinum are a negative, yet others say that is what they like about it. It is just silly to say one is better than the other. I have now ...
keep your 5970r

if you'd buy 5970p, I think it would be for 'wrong reasons'. If it was a watch meant for you, you'd not need to ask perfect strangers about how to spend your $130,000 BTW, I had 5970P on my wrist.....nice....but not my cuppa tee....
