Same rules as before, except this time the budget is $150,000 for the two. Which two would you buy from the current collection that would cover all the bases for a 2-watch collection from Patek? This one is much harder than before. I am going with two wat...  

This is much more difficult especially as it has to come from the current collection! I would choose my incoming 7234R and the 5170P! The perfectly sized 7234R which is actually a ladies watch! The 5170P and its gorgeous dial ...

5230G is a strong choice, but I have two problems: I am waiting for a P version, first, and / or probably a 5231 in white metal. So, maybe not an immediate choice. But since you said from the current collection... The 5930G, I really have to see it in the...

But I can imagine myself going for several constellations in the current collection....I am still a bit surprised over the popularity of the 5968A, but perhaps I need to see one in the real to have a real opinion.... Second place combo for me would be a 5... 

If forced, I would go with 5990A and 5905P black dial. Although, to be quite honest, I don't really like anything from the current range all that much.

Also, Joe, I hear what you say about 5230 being formal. I’m trying an experiment with mine on a chocolate matte brown strap to give it a more causal vibe and because I generally wear brown shoes/belts more often. Heresies two pictures with brown strap and...  

.....as that seems more complimentary to the grey of the dial than the brown. But thats just me. I think teh formality issue is because of the case. The 5130 case is more utilitarian in my view. It can work in a casual or formal way. The 5230, in comparis... 

I appreciate the perspective. I hear you on the case design point, but having it on the wrist a lot recently, I personally do not find the case to be the cause of the formal feeling. To me, nothing says formal more than a black glossy croc strap, which is... 

In fact, i always ask for PP to replace the glossy with a matt black or matt blue. Lte us know how teh experiement goes

Based on the theoretical budget, a large sum would be directed towards a Philippe Dufour watch.

So my choices from yesterday’s query would still work because technically the 5960A is still in stock at some ADs. But I don’t want to be a broken record so I would take this do-over and select the: -5968A, even though it might be a tad big and a certain ... 

I am thinking of the big strides Patek have made into SS complications over the past 15 years: -Moonphase in the Nautilus for many years -Chronograph in both Nautilus & now Aquanaut -Dual time in both Nautilus & Aquanaut for a few years now -Annual calend...

Almost never in A, except a very rare application-only watch like the 5950A was. Ignore the one-off charity watches made in SS or Ti altogether. I guess another rattrapante could be made in A and it’ll again be application-only which might as well be non-... 

5004A and 5950A are pieces I admire. Both as I find them attractive but also because the fact they are made in steel and undoubtedly supremely comfortable to wear.... now unfortunately both are at a price point I am not ready for but it is great to have a... 

Outside of the Nautilus & Aquanaut families. Something in the same ballpark MSRP as the departed 5960A. So it would not be dramatically increasing the ratio of steel in the overall production.

Or a new version of 5565A would work for me...

The date is too far in on this.... just like on the 5168G unfortunately.... but perhaps it is less noticeable on the 5968 given its bulkier appearance and orange hand which focuses away the eye... I have no doubt the 5968 is wonderful once I see it in the...

because I could put together a bunch of "pairs" that would cover bases. The easy choice: 5740/1G-001 for every day + 5196G for formal wear. Why these 2? (1) The 5740G personifies, for me, the pinnacle of what Patek does best: multiple finishes in an uncon... 

And save the rest for a 5370 down the road. I do feel bad for leaving out my own 5960a black dial. But in this 2 watch collection format, these 2 make a better pair. Ken

the 5235G (new movement and an excellent regulator design) and the 5131P (bracelet for the sportiness and enamel map for artistry). Hopefully with a slight discount and VAT rebate, the budget might just be met !

My favorite under $150K watch would be a 5131, but P is the only current production watch. So now I am stuck. $130K leaves $20K to play with and I can only think of one watch under $20 K - 5167A. However, 5167A is limited, desirable, sporty, attractive an...
